Picked up a cheap Royal Magic Ball and Vase today. The gimmick sticks to the lid, and even some good sanding isn't helping (yet).
For those who own the Adams version, have you had this problem? Mark

I like the one with the eyeball for a ball. It's not geeky at all and makes it fun. I think you have to make your own.

Well, we've got the Ball Vase, the Egg Vase, MagicChris presents us with the Eye Vase....
I saw an Orange Vase recently (I think by Porper). If we let our imaginations run wild the possibilities could be absolutely hilarious. We could combine the Ball Vase with the Fake Dog Poop and create a .... oh, nevermind. ;^)

I have sold a lot of the Adams ones that come in the nice box. They look fine and do what they are supposed to do with no problem. It is surprising how many adults are baffled by these, I though every kid had one.
You just gotta love those beautifully turned wooden ones, though, like the ones from Owen. Yours, Paul |

I have an Adams version from almost forty years ago and it is great. Heavy weight red plastic and a real wooden ball. Even the fake matches. I have it in a little display case with some other "ancient" props like a metal finger chopper that could actually chop a finger if you are not careful and some stuff from My Merry Magic.
I did get a wooden version that uses a golf ball. Unfortunately it is a cheapie and very prone to humidity. It looks good on display but not practical for real world use.

It has been YEARS since I used a Ball and Vase, and after purchasing one yesterday I was disappointed that the gimmick stuck in the lid just a bit - after playing around with it and performing it in front of my 11 year old daughter, I have found that this is a distinct advantage, and that having to have a slight grip on the gimmick when opening the lid to reveal that the ball has traveled back into the vase is a minor trade-off when you are allowed to lift off the lid by the top to reveal the vanish.

Mayo, love your signature line. NO ONE could ever say the following as well as Bela Lugosi in the same movie:
"There are far worse things...awaiting man...than...death." Remember that line?

It's been almost 10 years since I've been behind the magic counter demoing slum magic so I could be mistaken but I don't recall there being much difference between the quality of Adams and Royal.
Fun Incorporated, the company that makes the Royal line also makes much of the Adams line which Adams simply repackages. Many of their items us the same die with a different color and quality of plastic. As I said, it's been a long time so I can't remember if the ball vases had a different design or not but there's a high possibility that they are exactly the same. Dave |

Actually, there is a very distinct difference in the shape of the Royal Ball and Vase, and the Adams version that comes in the clear, shrink-wrap with the cardboard frame.
Also, as noted above, at least one poster regards the Adams version as the better made of the two. Since posting the original question, I have found a couple of other folks who have said the same thing (about this particulare effect, not Royal vs. Adams in general). Mark
