Well this month the crappy weather finally broke, and I hit the streets!

I did well, real well. Here's a few things I'm doing differently:

1) I'm wearing a tie. I still look like a street hustler, but now I'm a well dressed one. Gold silk jacket, purple shirt, gold tie.

2) I've got a new pitch that has an alcove...this means that there is about ten feet behind me. This is good...it allows me to adjust the distance between myself and the edge. Try this! Use a store front or something! It makes a HUGE difference!

3) I'm passing the hat TWICE.

Congratulations bud. We are getting snow every other day here so I am "snowed in" until Spring. I can't wait to get back to the streets.

I've always wondered about this type of magic. I've seen magicians at fairs, or tourist type places. But, wondered, could you go to any city and just start on any corner?

Not exactly, good idea though.

Poke around here for a while, you'll learn a LOT about what to do and where to go. Some Cities require permits, some require auditions, some will just arrest you. I live in Las Vegas, where anything that keeps people out of the Casinos is frowned upon quite vigorously. http://www.performers.net is a great resource to learn more.

I have this type of advantage too ... what works well for me is to draw my crowd with some standup effects and then walk them back the 10 feet to my table to define the edge. This allows room for more people to gather. Smile

I'm from the Philippines where there is only sun and rain. I've never thought that snow could bog you guys down that much. Other than keep the spectators off the streets, what other damage does snow do to a street performer?

They don't get paid because there aren't anyone on the streets, and then they starve. It's a tough business.

Nice work, Zack, and good luck!

Anyone know about street work in Hollywood? Do you need a permit?

Sorry to all your East Coasteners. Today here in Cali it was downright hot, LOL.

No permits in Hollywood. The cops will ask you for one, just explain that there is no such thing.

Ace also has a killer book, "The Magic Life". Excellent read.
Any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile...can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction, "I served in the United States Navy." J.F.K.

Sounds like you're trying to challenge Zaphod Beeblebrox for "worst dressed sentient being." (He's won it three years running, y'know!)

Actually, sadly, the picture is sadly out of date. In fact it's over twenty years old! I keep planning to post a newer picture, but I'm lazy.

BTW, you should have seen the tux before I used Paint to cover up where the cumberbund was pulling away from the pants!
