Hi Group,
Could you recommend the right Swami that can do the pocket writing easily? I will use it together with SUC. There is another thread talking about Swami but does not touch pocket writing. I think it shall be easy to write clearly in the pocket and then get rid of it quickly, so I can have time to load writing in SUC. Is the one Mark Strivings carrying OK for this purpose? Also please recommend any good reading material in pocket writing area. Thanks. |

Perhaps you already know this, but pocket writing is best done with a pencil stub. Using a Swami just might be overkill.
Having said that, I would still be interested to know if anybody uses a Swami for pocket writing and what are the advantages of such a methodology. Cheers, Pradip |

You don't really need to use a swami for pocket writing. If you want to know more about pocket writing, you can get the book by Mark Striving on the subject. He covers all technical parts of this technique.

I think that Riggs is doing a lot of
pocket writing. Maybe he wrote a book about it. Shimi |

Pradip, is pencil stub a piece of very short pencil?
Alex, could you give me the book's name Mark wrote? Shimi, sorry for my lack of knowledge. Who is Riggs, and where can I find his info? Thanks for all your reply so far! |

Max88,
You are right. A pencil stub is a very short length of pencil. Best of luck! Pradip |

John Riggs wrote PW, the mentalist's secret weapon. It is good. You can get it from
http://www.dennymagic.com or straight from him. He has a good CD of all his books in e-book format. I can PM you his email if you want (he uses a different name as a performer, and I'd like to keep the secret secret; he also has a website). /bamba |

Bamba, thanks for the info. You let me remember that I have already bookmarked John's site before just for his other books. I will look into that.
Alex, I found the book name you gave in Mark's catalog, and thank you much to save my time. I will try to start with pencil stub anyway to get some basic feeling. |

Hmm.. Hope I'm not letting the cat out of the bag here. There is a "new" PW system pending release very soon. I'll check with the powers that be and find out a release date.
I will say that John Riggs has more or less given the unit a "thumbs up". They are more than fairly priced, and though I don't do this method much, it's cool! Someone will give you an update soon (please don't PM and ask me any details).

Okay, the wait's over, and it's time to spill the beans
Today marked the release of my Derringer product line, two rubber-grip ballpoint pens designed specifically for use in pocket writing. Check out the details: Here! So far everybody who's seen them has liked them--for the first detailed review, by mentalist R. Lee Davis, see the website, as well as for some other endorsements (and more are coming each day) --Andy

Personally, I just take hot knife to a plastic ball-point pen to make a stubby little pen!

Mark Strivings has an excellent pocket writing effect in his video "Walk Around Mentalism". Worth checking out!

I realise that most of this thread goes back quite a ways, but a regular thumb-worn swami is not recommended for PW at all. If you were to actually try it you would find it to be virtually impossible to do. A pencil stub (or one of it's many variants) is recommended, but if you want to use a swami, use a fingertip writer. Much easier.
For much more complete information, I would recommend checking out either John Riggs' book or my own (or, candidly, both!), as cited above. Contact me at MarkyApril@aol.com for more info. Mark

A very workable PW I use is Andy Leviss' "Derringer". I prefer the RT with the retractable tip. Another is a PW I've been playing with that is commercially available at any Staples. I know of one mentalist that has painted it skin color and is selling it online for $20 (it only costs $1.50 at Staples). This PW works in any position as it uses a Fisher Space Pen insert, and is a good size to use either as a PW or as a secret double-writer.
I also know of a mentalist who will be coming out with a PW he calls "MSW: Mentalists Secret Weapon" that will come in both an visible and invisible ink version. Uriah
