I`ve been practicing this lately (the routine from AOA). Does anyone do it? If so how are the responses?

If this is Harris' coins and mirror effect, the stand alone commercial version has been around for several years.
Haven't done it lately because the mirror got cracked but when I did the responses were good. I recall that had to adjust the patter and sleights a bit to my liking. |

If you crack the mirror, do the reflection coins crack too?
...to all the coins I've dropped here

I owned the original version and my mirror also broke. 7 years after that, my luck changed for the better and the new version uses a plexiglas mirror. It's unbreakable. Beware of this ripoff. The new version does not have the transparent folder that holds the mirror. This was a desireable part of Paul Harris's original routine.
They angles prevented me from performing this in any real life situation. If the mirror cracks, you see multiple images. isn't that weird?
Mediocrity is greatly under rated!

Study the different versions in Harris' book and construct your own routine. It's fun. I think few magicians have seen this performed in the right angles. The effect is so dead magical!!!
I performed my version of it at the Close-up room in the Magic Castle. It is definitely a routine for formal presentation or for a one on one situation. Angel sensitive but magic at it's best! Jonathan that comment is so typically you ;-)

Daniel Cros had a neat little addition to this. Good luck finding it.
Will you walk into my parlour? said the Spider to the Fly,
Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy; The way into my parlour is up a winding stair, And I've a many curious things to show when you are there. Oh no, no, said the little Fly, to ask me is in vain, For who goes up your winding stair -can ne'er come down again. |

I have the Daniel Cros version. I got it from the Magic Warehouse. It is only $7, and is very good. I don't have the Paul Harris version, but when I have the money to buy AoA...
One note about the Cros version--it uses an e[, which is not included. Neither is the mirror. Brandon |

Theo Roos (if I remember the name correctly) has a version out of Twilight, only using jumbo coins. It's designed to be done stand-up. I think this routine would be less angle-sensitive when performed for a seated audience.

Wonderful routine...I'd forgotten about it. I found my little mirror and got some half dollars and English pennies...this one needs a lot of practice, but is GREAT, if you weave the right story around it. Listen to some old-time radio mysteries and sci-fi shows (Dimension X & X Minus One) for some great patter ideas for this!
Thanks for posting this! Doug |

That trick would be great with a Twilight Zone theme. Like, this coin is in the Twilight Zone, in the dimension of imagination, but sometimes - the dimension of imagination can actually cross over into reality.
I've always wanted to try that trick but am too lazy to buy a mirror. Or maybe I'm too embarrassed to go into the women's makeup section at Wal-Mart. :S I used to have the "Magic Works" (Tenyo, whatever) version a long time ago, but my little brother eventually broke it. It got great reactions when I did it though. Speaking of that, I wish those Magic Works things were still around. Some of them were actually pretty cool. That was the first one I ever got though. My uncle Dave got it for my birthday one year. |

I used to love this routine.
My take on it was to use magnetic halves for two of the coins; I stuck a thin layer of vinyl magnetic sheet material on the back of the mirror, thereby cleaning up the handling considerably. Regards, Thomas Wayne

Somewhere about this board, I have described a bizarre magic approach to this using not a nice, friendly purse mirror, but a shard of a broken funhouse mirror that was found at the site of a travelling sideshow. Seems the distorted images you saw in the mirror were real. Probably just a myth.
Also, you can make this almost impromptu these days by using a CD or DVD as the mirror. Try thinking of your hand as the table, and slipping the DVD between your fingers until you're left with a half-circle to work with. You can vanish a coin by rubbing it into the DVD. Use a folder and ditch it through the center hole.

That DVD idea is _awesome_! I had never thought of that, but I will have to try it.
