I am unable to see any Sponsors Banners, all I can see is:
------------------------------------------------------ Please click a banner to visit our sponsors, who ensure the Magic Café remains a free resource for all magicians! ------------------------------------------------------ I would like to visit the sponsors web sites via the Café rather than using My Favourites. I understand that access through the Café informs sponsors where the link came from ,rightly so. I use: Microsoft XP Home. Internet Explorer V6.0 Norton System Works which includes: - Anti spam - Anti virus - Personal Firewall I have Ad Blocker turned off. I would appreciate any advise on how I can enable Sponsors Banners. Regards Mike ![]() |

On the Internet Explorer web browser toolbar at the top of your screen, you should see an icon that looks like a globe with the label "Web assistant". Click on it and uncheck the "Block ads on this site" option.

Hi Gilmore,
As I have stated I am using Internet Explorer V6. There is no 'Web Assistant' on the tool-bar, under 'Tools' there is 'Pop-up Blocker' which is turned off. Any more suggestions would be appreciated. Regards Mike ![]() |

Mike, do you have a firewall running? If so, you may need to go into it and adjust the settings there. Ihad the same problem awhile ago and the firewall was the problem.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for your response, I did have a firewall running now switched off. I have also switched off: Ad blocking. Pop ups Anti virus. I have a low security setting. Deleted all cookies & temporary files. Set privacy to Accept All Cookies. All to no avail. Regards Mike ![]() |

Sorry to be a pain in the neck, but can someone please help.
I have deleted all cookies and temp internet files. I have disabled: Pop Up blocker Ad blocker. Anti virus. Disabled all security settings in Norton System works. I have completely removed Norton Firewall. All to no avail I still can't see sponsors banners except for Boofoo's at the bottom of the forum. Is Boofoo's different than other sponsors banners. Mike,
Are you seeing a picture placeholder or nothing at all? Also, my opinion is you have disabled some beneficial programs - virus especially -you may want to reconsider. -Rob |

Hi Rob,
I am not seeing any placeholders I can see all avatars / cups etc. I just can't see Sponsors Banners. This only occurs on the Café. Having disabled Pop Ups / Ad Blocking, they are now appearing on all sites except the Café. Yes I must enable Virus Checker and other security programs shortly, to save hacking. I am pondering if some Registry Entry is not being cleared when I disable. However the problem only appears to be on the Café. Regards Mike ![]() |

I could have given you an instant answer if it was the placeholder scenario, darn.
I did notice a thread in this same forum though that repeatedly points to Norton click here. Its worth a shot to enable Norton and adjust the settings (you might be right about the registry settings). Let me know what finally works. |

Number One, could you do me a favor? I wondered if you could send me the source code of the HTML for the index page when you view it. If you aren't familiar with that, it's easy - just view the home page then click View (in your browser's toolbar) then Source. The page source should open in Notepad (or whatever text program is set to open it on your system). Save that as a text file and email it to me. My email is geneSPAM@NOSPAMgmbwebworks.com. (Just take out the SPAM and NOSPAM words.) I'd like to review the HTML you're getting and compare it to what I'm getting. I can see all of the images, and a comparison might lead me to a clue.
Somebody kick me off the computer, will ya?

Got it ... and I found something interesting. Not sure why it's doing this though. The only reason I can think of is it has to be something to do with your computer.
Here's one snippet of code as an example (all the banners are basically the same). First, the HTML generated that I get with my source view: <a href="http://www.coingaffs.com"><img src="images/banners/schoolcraft2.jpg" alt="Please be kind enough to visit our sponsor!" border=0></a> That's exactly how a link should be written. Now, here's the one you sent me: <a href="http://www.coingaffs.com"></a> The entire img src HTML tag is gone - and it shouldn't be. My mom's computer runs XP, so I'm going to play with that a little bit and see if there's something I can find. This is so wierd ...

OK, I think it's your Norton AntiSpam that's blocking the banner ads. Since the word "banner" is in the image code, I think it's removing that image code before the browser has a chance to show it. That's the only thing I can find that would explain your not being able to see the banners. I found a page on the Symantec site that explains it better. Here's the link:

WHAT ARE ALL THESE BANNERS I CAN SEE ![]() :online: you are the top man. ![]() I have disabled Norton Anti Spam, which fixed the problem. I use Outlook Express which is inexplicably linked to Internet Explorer. My ISP blocks email spam so the Norton Anti Spam is now redundant. A little computer knowledge is a dangerous thing 'I am dangerous' ![]() Many many THANKS. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I hope this may help other members that use Norton. Regards Mike ![]() |
