Any feedback on this routine would be appreciated

Hopping Half - Script
Plot: Coins in Love

Sleeves up.

"This is a love story - between two coins. The coins are a Canadian Toonie and an Mexican Centavo. An international affair of copper and silver."
Display the two coins, flashing the backs of each.

Love music for background

"Twas a chance meeting in a vending machine… but on first sight he knew he wanted her as his queen."
Both coins in left hand, prepared for silver removal.

"Toonie was once given to a panhandler with a shove."
Put silver in pocket.

"But soon found his way back to Centavo through the magic of love."
Reveal silver and copper in left hand. Prepare copper for removal.

"Centavo was once put into a wishing well with a drop."
Put copper in pocket.

"But was rescued by Toonie’s love which simply would not stop."
Reveal copper and silver in left hand.

"Once, Toonie was shipped to a coin collector in Bucharest."
Put silver in pocket.

"But the magic of Centavo’s love didn’t fail the test."
Reveal silver and copper in left hand.

"Then a tragic event occurred...which was one the saddest stories ever heard."
Clench left hand in to fist with the two coins.

"Centavo was left on a railroad track. The 5:27 came by and well…she’ll never be back.."
Remove copper and put in pocket.

"In pocket change heaven Centavo now resides and through the magic of love Toonie joined her side."
Open left hand to show silver disappeared.

I wanted to clarify that I took the idea of Steve's and tried to make it more poetic. Thanks for your thoughts, ideas on the routine to make it even better...thanks to Steve for sharing his original idea.

I like your routine. Thanks for sharing. I sometimes do the "I can fool you" type of routine and have been thinking about alternatives. I was also thinking of a love story with an American President and British Queen (half and English penny) but haven't fleshed out the patter yet.

Gene,

The original routine by Steve used patter with the American coin meeting the English penny in London. Just change all the coins to American and Penny and you have it. You could go further and personalize the locations a little more, thus making the routine more of your own. I'm glad you like it!

Very nice! I could see this either narrated by the performert or done to music with the words already dubbed into the music production so as to connect with the audience in a more "complete" manner. Thanks for sharing!

The Great Smartini,

Thanks for sharing...and for granting permission in your last post for others to use your effect and for asking others to share their modifications and other "bits of business" regarding this effect.

It is obvious that you know the difference between "doing a trick" and "performing an effect". The former is merely a puzzle, the latter is an entertaining piece of magic.

Its time to dust off those Hopping Half coins that have been gathering dust in my drawer these many years and begin to play around with this.

Thanks again for sharing. Most importantly, thanks for demonstating an example of what makes magic Magic.

Mike,

Thanks for your kind comments like "...what makes magic magic." I will look forward to hearing from those out there who like the routine to add there improvements, variations, etc. here at the Café. I think this is what the Café is about and am pleased to share my handling of this effect.

Great storyline I like it. I have a question, does anyone make a hopping half set with an American Half and A Mexican centavo? The Johnson set I have is an American half and an English penny

Wanted to add , this is just in time for Valentine's day for all you romantics [myself included]. I am working on this right now to present at a Valentine dance next weekend. Thanks again Great Smartini

Updated/Revised - Hopping Half Script

Twas purest coincidence an occurence most strange
when they met in a vending machine.
They fell head over tails, this was no small change,
He knew he wanted her for his Queen.

Once Toonie was moved to brand new Quarters
But he slipped through a hole in the glove.
His affection for Centavo transcended all borders
He found his way back through the magic of love.

Centavo once flipped, to coin a phrase
Down a small, covered well for a wish.
She used her common sense, and the very next day
She returned, though she smelt like a fish.

A collector once found Toonies 2 cents worth
He was shipped to far off Bucharest.
But though between them lay the breadth of the earth
Centavo's love didn't fail the test.

One day Centavo found herself in a pickle
And was left on a railroad track.
The train came, she wasn't worth a plugged nickle
Toonie saw she would never came back.

The Great Smartini,

I love the poem, think it is an excellent improvement. Now I know where you got your name. One question though, the poem doesn't account for the disappearance of the Toonie, in fact, it implies the Toonie is still there.

Gene,

I'm still working on the new ending where the Toonie vanishes...for now it's still

In pocket change heaven Centavo now resides and through the magic of love Toonie also joined her side.
