So far this is what I have, thanks to the help of Jaz on this form. I really enjoyed discussing the patter with him, Very creative and a very friendly magician.
The tricks here are two that which are really basic. 1) Cups and balls; the basic no slieght routine. With a salt shaker twist You will understand reading through the patter. 2) The Iceman Cometh which can be found in Micheal Ammars course on magic. so we will start. Introduction: Good evening ladies and gents, I thank you for coming. Now before we begin what I would like to do is go around the room introducing ourselves. We would hate to be strangers. But I do understand some people care not to be in the spot light if that be the case no pressure, just say pass. No further questions will be asked. I will start. My name is Mayo Welch, and you sir? :End We then go around the table which I am guessing to be 10 tops. introducing ourselves. Introduction-part2: Ah, All very nice names, I feel we can begin now! :End Ice Man cometh: Who would care to assist me? I would like you to select a card. Alright, Here you hold on to part of it. :End I then go into the effect but before revalation I continue IceMan Cometh-phase2: Have you ever been so cold your breath hurt as it pushed itself from your lungs? So cold your eyes were hurting so bad you thought you would not be able to open them if you dared blink? I have. I know this sensation all to well. :END I then blow on the card case, as a stream of my cold breath hits the deck. I then lay it in the center of the table. IceMan Cometh-phase3: Go ahead. Open it. Let everyone see! :End That is the point where the block of ice falls out with there card frozen inside. Cups n Balls intro: Here is my tale, for those who would care to here. :End Now for cups and balls. I mimick the " man" in the story. Cups n Balls: When I was in New Orleans visiting my Aunt and Uncle many years ago, the sun had just set and I took an early evening walk. I saw this man in a park talking with a child. I went to see what was happening, upon arriving the childs eyes lit up with joy. 'What is going on', I asked. 'Join us?' asked the child. The man rolled three balls out of three stacked cups. The man then moved the three balls forward giving room to place his cups onto the table. He took one ball placed it on top of the cup, then proceeded to cover the cup. He asked me, 'do you believe in magic?' he asked. I just shrugged. This man had just slowly pulled his hand down from the top cup onto the table like so. He then lifted the cups, and the ball had penatrated the cups! I felt compelled to watch, and this time he placed the ball on the second cup! My eyes buldged at what I had just witnessed he looked upon me with a fair smile, 'I don't need to ask, I see it in you.' waveing his hand in front of the cups at the same moment, he lifted them showing that the one had just joined the other. 'It seems one more has joined' he spoke and both he and the child smiled. For a moment I thought I saw the glistening of pointy teeth. He placed the ball onto the top cup and placed a dark scarf. He then told me to push the ball through, I trusted him and pushed and as I did, I was a bit shocked to find the ball melting slowly into the cups as my finger pressed it! He looked deep into me with strong eyes and replied, 'I have found you at last.' I felt a rush come over me, When I reagained my composure the man and the child were both gone. Leavening me with the cups, something I did not understand for quite sometime. That was the first step in this magical journey." :End Closing: Again I am glad you all could come witness this with me, But all good things must come to an end. I hope you will come visit with us again, as I will be telling a bit more about myself. And please, enjoy the magic of your lives as it happens all around us everyday! I bid you farewell, and a safe trip home. :End Which I understand two effect ARE NOT pleaseing which I feel they could be... You all tell me your opinions. The vampire angle is an indirect goal. Something for them to think about. I am trying to avoid the mention of magic because it is so often related to "tricks". By the way this may look familar in the "words we use" section, but it just felt funny to me there. Off the wall, here it feels at home so I am sorry for the double post. But Mark also assisted in my patter, so it is not the exact same. Tell me what you think, Do I need more, or is that sufficent, ect. constructive critisism welcome. Your friend, Mayo

Eugene Burger once told me to be clear in the first line of what the premise of the effect was. For example, in your first effect, being that you are hinting at being the undead...(As I wrote this, I came up with the idea that at your performance is where you choose to turn from mortal to vampire)
"Some say a person's last breath is as cold as a dark winter storm. Have you ever been so cold your breath hurt as it pushed itself from your lungs? So cold your eyes were hurting so bad you thought if you dared blink they would be closed forever? I have. I know this sensation all too well. Unlike you, I can choose my last breath, but have been told to make it count. These may be my last moments in the sun and I want you to witness the consequences of the way I came to be...." I like the frozen object, REALLY like the idea, but I think it should be something more important than a playing card.

I have a suggestion. Your idea is basically very good. But would your character actually speak like that? Are those the words you would use when you speak?
There is a very well-known tape of bizarre magic that has a presentation near the end of a young man who is doing some original presentations. I won't mention his name. The stories are excellent, but the language is so stilted that I doubt he would ever actually speak that way in normal life. It would have been laughable, if the presentation had not been very obviously serious. Now, if your character would speak as you write, that's fine. But if not, change it.

For the cups and balls the opening line might be...
"Sometimes a child's game is not so innocent." I get the sense you are trying to dress up magic with some vampire ideas to make them less "tricky". In my opinion, you should go much further or it will look like dressing. And if you do, I would really underplay showing the vampire. It should be more about the stories and that they might get the weird feeling you are talking about you. And Bill is right, script it so you speak like you. And practice until it sounds like it is not a script.

Woah! Thanks guys! That is what I was looking for! And Mr.Bill you are right, some of the presantation would not match to me. And I get what you are saying I have wanted to crack up several times while practicing. So rewrite the script with more of an undertone and more modern?
I will start that tonight or tomarrow depending on when I get back. Get rid, of the playing cards in all entirety. But keep the frozen idea. Got'cha! Hm, this is going to be so much more difficult, It will be fun though this is the magicians favriot part. Well to me it is. Back to the drawing boards! Thanks Cliff Thanks Bill

More expensive perhaps, than using playing cards in your act, but I've seen around sets of "Gothic" Tarot Cards... Perhaps they would be more suitable for your effect?

The Gothic Tarot cards look awesome ! I've thought about getting them. In fact, if it were possible, I'd dump regular cards altogether and use only Tarot, but that's not realistic, really. And probably very expensive to boot.
Mayo, good ideas as always. I agree too with "Mr. Bill" about the stilted language. Frankly, I don't think Brad Pit pulled it off very well in the beginning of "Interview with the Vampire", so maybe I'm a tad critical, but all in all, you gotta be you .. to a point. Of course, you aren't really a vampire, so take it for what it's worth. For the iceman effect, I just want to throw some other ideas out there quickly: take a look at Winter Spirit, and Ghost Glass II. Either of these may suit you. I have Ghost Glass myself, the Impromptu version with the fluid. BTW, I got my M5 .. holy cow. You might want one of these !! It's cool. Frankly though, I'd also like something in between the M5 and the Bat, power-wise. The Bat's just a little too weak, and the M5 could be overkill in some situations.

I have thought about the M5 but then had this horror of everyone leaving the show and there credit cards being erased. I feel that would get a better buro complaint on my part , But if you think they are not that strong as to wipe a credit card from a few feet I will look into it.
As for winter spirit, I have seen it and I want one! I have the creature coming in the mail. But Mr. Arelin(??) I think is how you spell it. Is having some problems at the moment and I would hate to burden him. Plus it is very expensive and I would like to see a demo or here a few persinol reviews before buying that. Ghost glass, that is where you breath onto the glass and what ever you want appears written on it? right? And I will work on my stilted language, Thank all of you for the support, I dunno where I would be without the Café and all my friends. your friend, Mayo

Mayo, you don't have to worry about wiping people's credit cards, you'd have to be closer than a few feet.. it's powerful, but it ain' that powerful !
Man.. I'm getting addicted to these stupid smilies .. Anyhoo, I wouldn't bring a credit card closer than maybe a foot and a half, but other than that, it's probably a non-issue. You'd just need to be careful if you're directly handling a spec, say, you have the M5 on your wrist, and you take hold of the specs's wrists to turn them around, and your wrist comes near their back pocket where the CCs are.. even then, a quick, glancing pass is probably not terribly dangerous. Keith Lack (Arlen Studios, Arlen is his middle name) is back, but I know what you mean about burdening him. On the other hand, some people like to bury themselves in work to help work through a tough personal period. I just got a PM from him today, regarding my Pop-Eye effect, so he's definitely reaching out to people and making amends. I've also thought about getting "Creature". I'm not sure if he makes these things per custom order, or makes a bunch and then the stores stock them. You could check with Hank Lee's and see if Winter Spirit is actually in stock, it may be. You should check out http://www.magicauctions.com too, it's like the eBay of magic, not to mention eBay itself can be a great source of magic gear. I've saved tons of money from eBay, usually directly from the supplier himself - Jim Pace comes to mind. Here's a link or two regarding Winter Spirit: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......orum=109 http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......orum=109 http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......forum=14 http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......orum=109 Here's one for Creature: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......orum=109 As to the Ghost Glass, yes, you are correct. It's neat, and definitely has great spook potential. Don't bother trying a "homemade" version using Rain-X, it doesn't work nearly as well. You're only limited by your imagination on this one, to use a cliche. I would use it with someone's name, perhaps, or even as a ouija type spirit message.

I agree with Bill that your language must match your
character. The question is, how would your vampire character speak? In most portrails of the vampire, he stops aging when he is turned. How old are you really? It seems to me that if your language is more formal and even more archaic than you actually speak it could give the impression that you are much older than you look. That said, this is a tricky business. It would take good acting skills to pull it off effectivly. You are definatly on the right track! Dave |

I am enjoying all of your creativity, magic has some of its roots in and owes a lot to theatrical productions. This is no different and its good to see so many ideas floating around. The first Vampire act I ever heard of was Lance Burton's. He would perform in the Dracula attire with white face and all. In his own words he was an "a--" because people saw and admired the talent but not the arrogant character that was performing. Now he performs as himself and has great success because he is naturally likeable. Long story short do whatever you think will play, but always keep in mind that no matter how much they like your magic they have to like you first.

Thank you Dan, that was a wakeup call! For some reason that never hit me. I want them to like me to book me, not just the character? Which actually I have thought of this and that is a worry I have.
If I am out of character and someone who has been to my show sees me, with darker skin, walking around in the sunlight, ect. Wouldn't that take away from my magic and there astonishment? Maybe I should be giving this character second thoughts? Your friend, Mayo

Ahh, Jaz, you just jogged something loose in my brain. I think it was that nail I lost pounding up my nose last year, but anyway ..
The reason Blade can walk around in the sun is because he's not a vampire. He's a Dhampir ! Half human, half vampire, just like the videogame character Bloodrayne - which besides being a cool game (the sequel looks better than the original), it's also in production to be a movie, out early next year. Mayo, you should think about this, and I can't believe it didn't' hit me 'til now - being a dhampir would give you all the powers of a vampire, and allow you to be out in the sun too. Lastly, dhampirs are generally the good guys, which you presumably wish to portray yourself as, so it's win-win. Heck, I might just modify my own character, this seems to remove a lot of restrictions and provide more reasonable explanations. Plus dhamirs don't usually look quite as scary, which would remove that possible distraction - looking as I do in my avatar, I think might be more of a liablility than an asset. I could go without the forehead prosthetic :bat:

Glad to help. Love all the vampire topics.
Angel, of Buffy fame, sometimes switches from good to evil or shows his fangs. It seems that there are a lot of different types of vampires and that any underlying biography could be used for a character. There are also magic items and curses that could be incorporated into the character's story. Rings, amulets, curse of the clown feet (kidding). Make it a special character. |

Hi Jaz,
In Angel's case, it's because he's a vampire with a soul. In the last season of Buffy (*sniff*) Spike got his soul back too, but they're pretty much exceptions I would think. In the Buffyverse, they were the only two. Still, I would agree, surely one could create a motivation for a vamp to turn on his kin and fight alongside humanity, or at least, not consider us merely dinner. One such scenario - a warlock, wizard or male witch that fought a vampire and won, but before killing the vampire managed to get bitten. So now he's a Warpire, or a Vicca, or a Vampizard, or a Vampard, or a Wizpire .. LOL or a ..Vamplock ? (Okay that just sounds stupid ), I like Warpire, Vicca, and Vampard best. I would love to find a way to get my fangs and forehead to bulge out and retract in real time, (as well as get the contacts to "turn on" ) but I just don't see a viable method of doing that live, short of nanotechnology.

Okay I am back, I am very sorry I have not been keeping up with this post myself I have had a few persinol matters to take care of, and I have been researching like a mad man through my mothers books on shakespear and burns, and my brothers books of poe and frost I think is the last one, I pay no mind to him. I was just reading to get a feel for there language. Which I am suppose to know but I was just checking again.
Anywho. My mother perposed I start taking words and putting the tang to them, twenty words a week. And make sure I stick to it, that would give me the accent but I would still speak into days tounge. Which then I suggested an Irish audio tape and that went over well so now I am trying to find one. I have not had the chance to work on my patter but I am getting there. I hit a dead end with an Ice effect. I wanted something really visuale, but can't seem to find what I am looking for. I thought about after cups and balls pick one up freeze it by blowing on it ( the cool air streams from my mouth and the ball is frozen inside my hand. But that is not flowing. So I am working on that still. And as for the half human vampires. That is going to be great! I just can't do all the makeup I wanted to do which I guess I still could, that would be fun everyday. lol, which I may not and just start useing a soap that makes your skin whiter, Dose anyone have any information about them? Anyways I know that was dis organised so I will explain again. 1) I am getting an Irish audio book; to turn my accept 2) I have not had a chance to work out my presantaion as of now I only have cups n balls though no second or third effect 3) I like the idea of not being a full breed, but would still like a whiter skin tone, So I am thinking about getting the "bleaching" soaps I think is what they are, however I am not sure how long they last. I would like it to be temporary. If anyone has expierimented with these please inform me lol. 4) I am beat, I actually felt burrdened for the first time in a long time! And I thank you guys for your intrest and help in pursueing this character. Your friend, Mayo

I have really enjoyed reading this thread. Mayo, I am sure you have heard of "psychic vampires"... those that can drain the energy or the "life-force" from unsuspected victims. I was thinking about material that would be good for a presentation about psychic vampires. First maybe drain the energy from a borrowed object like a key ( Robert Cassidy's BentonStrange ) comes to mind or something like that.
Then do a demo on a actual person.. the blister effect in T.A Waters Mind, Myth & Magick comes to mind. Or, a whole slew of mental effects can be used. You can find more info on psychic vamps here..http://www.mysticwicks.com/showthread.php?t=76643&highlight=psychic+vampires Peace
