Scotch and Soda. Very visual... my favorite routine is the one using the dollar bill sliding the centavo out each time. When you open the bill at the end they don't know what hit them. I had one lady play with that dollar bill for about a minute thinking it was a devil's handerchief or something. It brought tears to my eyes.
In loving memory of Hughie Thomasson 1952-2007.
You brought something beautiful to this world, you touched my heart, my soul and my life. You will be greatly missed. Until we meet again “my old friend”. |

Get Bobo's book and learn some great sleights with "borrowed" coins.

Slydini's work will blow anyone out of the water.
But yeah, get a shell.

Chosse mentioned the Slydini Coin Clip...heheheh a secret weapon for sure!
In my famed "boxes" I have a batch of pennies soldered together that look like a handful. On the back is a piece of chain, so you can "rattle" the coins. In addition, a HOOK. You bring out what appears to be and sounds like a handfull of coins... shake 'em to let them hear the sound, then you seem to toss 'em into the air and they are all gone. Poof. Thanks to the hook.

Dime and Penny
Copper Silver Transpo Hopping Halves Scotch and Soda Cig through Quarter All of these are great gimmicked coin effects that have withstood the test of time. Recently, I went ahead and purchased the Buttercoin/DVD combo. I will admit that I was initially disappointed at the gaff, but upon further inspection and study of the DVD I have found this to be one of my favorite gaffed coins EVER. I don't personally perform coin bite (due to oversaturation), but it can be used for this effect while being much cleaner in appearance after "bite" has been taken. My favorite effect with this coin though has to be Spectator's Signed Coin Through Table. The handling is cleaner than Hoosier's version utilizing a flipper, and is far and away better than trying it with a Coin to Bottle coin (more of the coins are visible to specs). I've been using it for a while now and highly recommend it (even to those with flippers and/or folding coins). The $30 price tag for coin and DVD isn't bad at all, and I'm sure that once you own it and play around with it for a while you'll see what I'm talking about. Try it, you'll like it. |

In answer to your 1st question regarding just starting out with coins and one that is gimmicked I would point you in the direction of Scotch and Soda. Very powerful , in their hands magic! and E.A.S.Y. Once doing that and seeing the expressions will most surely make you focus on learning coin slieghts. Good Luck.

One more vote for S&S and penny/dime. As with all effects, the patter and story make the effect.

For a card guy... might want to look into that wonderful mechancial deck that allows coins to appear in a glass. Not that the coins are gaffed, just a really nice method to do a cute trick.
...to all the coins I've dropped here

I just do a simple jumbo coin production and then go into the sensory control routine and this kills. I will also carry a half shell and do shadow coins.
