I'm amazed that one of the most commercially succesful mentalists in the world, Tim Conover is hardly ever mentioned on here. No effects, shows nothing.

Does Tim have anything published?
I have seen him do a few things and read a few things in books (like his introduction in Theatre of the Mind), but I do not think I have seen anything by him. Thanks, Scott By the way, I do agree with Ian when he says that Tim is one of the most commercially successful mentalists around. Definitely.
Thanks! Scott B.

Just shows that celebrity amongst mentalists and income are not higly correlated. Craig Karges is the same way...he does 100-200 shows a year for college and corporate offices. Big $$$, little press. Conversely, I don't get the sense that some of the most published mentalists do a lot of shows. (I don't think T. A. Waters performed much for instance).

I know that the big names in Israel get 3000-7000$ a show

In my experience/opinion there are not many full time pros on here who earn a full time living from corporate mentalism. I've no idea what Tim Conover charges nor do I wish to know. I do know his show is first rate commercial and he works!!! Pity he does not come on here.

I do Ian. And the last show I did was for 65 people at a dinner(about 45 minutes). And just becouse you guys mentioned fees the pay out was $23,000.00
But my act in unique. The client can't find some one else who can duplicate it. And I do mean any one. Cheers Jack |

There is little correlation between commercial success and visibility in the magic community (which, after all, is largely made up of hobbyists, offering limited value other than social to the professional performer). Most of the highest paid performers have published very little, if anything, of their work. I suspect that the majority of Café members would have difficulty naming the highest paid mentalists around today (people like Marc Salem, Craig Karges, Gerry McCambridge, Anton Zellman, Gil Eagles, The Evasons, Ross Johnson, Lior Manor, Joel Bauer, and quite a few others). I'm also aware of (but will not name) a few performers who are known here as magicians, but who actually perform as full-time mentalists, for top dollar.
I suspect few here would know the mentalists who performed at the recent Bush Inaugural celebrations. They are names unseen in the magic community, but who command good performance fees in the real world. Trade show mentalist Anton Zellman signed a million-dollar contract a few years ago with just one of his clients, and I suspect most people here have never heard of him. There's a wide gap between hobbyists and professionals. ... Doug

Anton Zellman has a high-end business DVD for those interested in trade shows, it seems very interesting.

Jack. You claim of a fee of $23,000 for a one off engagement in one evening is a bit hard to swallow. I am sure you will admit that it is a trifle high.
I wish I could believe you, but I'm sorry. I can't. I just can't........... I tend to find that the people who get paid highly never say anything about it and the people who don't make the big money are the ones who say they do. Call me cynical but I bet I am not the only one here who thinks that perhaps you should shave a decimal point off your fee for the sake of accuracy. |

Just got an email to my home. The above should read 2,300 not 23,000.
Made me laugh if I were getting paid the first figure I certainly would have more cash to spend time else were. Not that this is not a fine divertion. Cheers Jack |

Thanks Jack for clarifying that. $2300 is perfectly reasonable and I am sure you are worth it.
I apologise for being a trifle rude but when I saw the fee of $23,000 I was overcome with great envy and resentment. Disbelief was my only defence. It sure beats $150 for a kids birthday party. |

I think Tim Conover is one of them, and I am surprised that more successful performers haven't remained out of the collective community.

Are there any videos of Busch performing? Considering that (if memory serves) a Café member once claimed he made a statement to the effect, "My [Busch's] name means money!" and his published works are apparently quite highly esteemed I, for one, would like to see him performing on video some of the effects he's invented/elaborated on in text.

Richard Busch is up to my knowledge a hypno therapist and a performer.
- I would be very careful with statements as above (Do as I write, not as I do"( if I were you. Richard Busch is highly respected for his books and thinking. If you STUDY,( and not skim( what he writes, you will hopefully, and after a while find that his thoughts are extraordinary, and far more practical for the serious student than much of the rubbish you can buy from certain dealers.
