I used to get the course in lessons every month through the mail. I think I received a group of lessons once a month. I believe the owner that used to do the Chavez College is Dale Salwak. I never attended the live sessions..but the sleight-of-hand and misdirection and carrying yourself on stage is information that is second to none.
I don't know if they are still in business.. I have went into a different direction as per my screen name, but the material that I learned from those monthly lessons were some of the best I've spent in magic. All the best, Richard

There is a guy in Battle Creek that I think still teaches the course. He is a chavez grad. And great at the stuff too.

Hi Denny:
Dale Salwak teaches the classes in a studio he has in his home in La Verne, California. It's in the Los Angeles area. The course focuses mainly on stage manipulation - cards, coins, thimbles, etc. If you wish to learn manipulation, I think it's about the best way to go. I took private lessons from Dale years ago and it was a very valuable experience. He is an excellent teacher. Ron |

I have a few important questions regarding Chavez College of Magic:
- Does anyone know the cost of this school? - Is it just another IMS? - Can you take the courses from home? Bryan |

What do you mean by "IMS?"
They do offer home study. I understand that now Dale uses video as a teaching medium.

Bll,
IMS is the International Magician's Society. They offer a VHS/DVD Academy of Magic Courses lead by many great performers. The quality of each video isn't the greatest; however, there is a great deal of concepts, techniques, and routines to learn. Bryan |

I would second the reccomendation to take the instruction from Dale Salwak. Dale has helped me with my act immensely. Simple things but doeable.
Even if you do not do the manipulation, it will teach a lot of discpline and stage deportment. Richard

Currently Dale is offering the course in three formats, first to actually come and stay in California ( he can help with low cost rooming for you if you choose this option) the second is to make multiple trips to California and attend spaced out techings( this method usually takes longer but makes it so you can pead the time for other needs you may have) and the third method is a home study course which is the least expensive option. Having seen this vsersion( home study) I can attest its great materials, but requires the student to be somewhat more disciplined than the other methods as you are on your own to progress with out direct supervision on if or when you are working on the materials. I used to have their pricing but cant find it , and a sure it could have gone up snce then.
