I am looking for a stand up, coins-through-table routine that can be done at restaurants & banquet tables...A solid, workable routine for a walk-around performer.
Gaffs are OK. I am familiar with a routine from Derek Dingle and one from Troy Hooser. Any other suggested routines that I should be looking at? Thanks! |

Coins through the table is often best done when seated. From a standing position you have to bend unnaturally to reach under the table...just my humble opinion.
I need a stage name.

I have a stand up coins through the table routine in my COINvention lecture notes. E mail me at rubinsteindvm@aol.com if interested. An older version exists also in my third set of notes. By the way, no gaffs needed.
S.E.M. (The Sun, the Moon, and the Earth) is a sun and moon routine unlike any other. Limited to 100 sets, here is the promo:

Dave Neighbors has a great stand-up coins routine in his lecture notes "3-set" and a great Colrado magician named Cosmo Solano has a standup variation of Neighbor's trilogy coins that's to die for. He's fried some names with it!

David Regal has a very nice stand-up coins through table in his "Constant Fooling" books. It uses a very nice utility device that can be used in a number of ways.
Michael Close's "Too Ahead" from the Workers series (#5 I believe) has a stunning coins through table phase that is part of a very nice routine. This routine was developed for the venues you mentioned. It isn't easy, but is well worth the practice. |

My standup Coins thru Table will appear on "Palms of Steel" vol. 4 or 5. Sometime next year, I'm told. 'till then, catch me at a lecture and I'll show it to you.
P.S. Mike's is a good one, too, with several interesting and unique moments. (Michael Rubenstein, that is, as opposed to Close).
Is THAT a PALMS OF STEEL 5 Banner I see? YARRRRGH! Please visit The Magic Bakery

Why not do Roth's coins through table? or did you really want to use the 'BIG' table the Speck Tater's are eatin' at?
He uses a little Doll house table. It's a great routine, but you have to put together the prop. (ie find a doll house table you like) Craig |

I think someone did a stand-up coins thru table in the Coinvention as a part of a larger coin routine. It may be David Neighbors, I'm not sure.

Dean Dill has a beautiful coins through table to glass, which he performs standing. In one phase a coin vanishes as it is openly dropped on the table, immediately landing in the glass beneath. Fantastic routine!
If Dean is around, maybe he'll indicate whether it's available. Cheers, Jerry |

Actually, these days, there are a couple of stand-up CCTTS developped, that are as deceptive as the the sit-down versions..
Years back, I would have said, it was impossible, but TBH, some (very few) versions are as deceptive as the sit-down lapping versions, which also have do be done very well to be 'really' deceptive.. There is however, as earlier mentioned, a big disadvantage, and that is the strange 'bent' down' standing at a table.. This can be tried to overcome in a couple of ways.. First of all, to bent down at ones knees, meaning ones back shouldn't bent at all..otherwise once b*t bents way out and it gives a very strange look when ppl are at ones side or behind, it doesn't matter thought, if ppl are in front, or around a round table, then it is not noticed..but doing it in a restaurant will always have other people at other tables seeing that strange body position. Another solution is to go way down on ones knees to do it..depends on the table height.. There is one more and here in Europe -don't know how it is in the US- ppl often gather after dinner at low tables where one is sitting on low chairs or couches. Often, coffee is served at those low tables and they are preferably used in private homes.. To perform in a such venue is simply ideal re a *stand-up* CTTT, as one simply is sitting at a low couch, legs wide apart and doing the *stand-up* version. Here ones whole body position is relaxed, to me this is the ideal performing condition for this routine..and..it is a real killer.. I have developed 2 different versions which I do all the time and one does use a gaff, but in a very natural way, the other doesn't. They play equally well to normal spectators, the gaffed version however is a baffler for fellow magicians.. Both versions solely do use HPC once, that's all and it fits the handling.. I've studied everything available re stand-up versions and I still do, but no matter what I discover, I'll stick to what I do..

Michael Ammar does one on Coin Miracles Volume 2 or 3. He uses his own close up table adjusted a bit higher to avoid reaching, but the routine avoids l*****g and uses 4 ordinary coins. It includes Gallo's kicker sucker move to conclude where 3 coins go back up simultaneously.
In all these stand up routines, if the table surface is low and you are tall, you'll need to reach or bend your knees. That's just a fact of life. |

Absolutely not impressed with *free fall*.
The usual unnatural handling when using a gimmick like the one he does use.. Each time, anybody picks coins up with one hand and reposition them in the other hand, no matter in what way, I leave... Larry Jennings also used that stragety..no matter who does or did, I don't like it. IMHO it is not the way to handle coins, but as long as the performer is happy and probably fools some ppl it must be OK, nevertheless I dislike a such approach/coinhandling.. Sorry to all those using it..don't bother..my opinion doesn't count..your spectators does..if they are not suspecious, good, nevertheless one still could strive for a bit more perfection and a more natural handling..just for the sake of *the art* Pick the coins up with one hand, jiggle them and go ahead..don't pick up with one hand and place them in a more or less unnatural postion into the other hand.. If needed, *throw* them over into your other hand without even looking..jiggle them..but don't position a coin, any coin, in any way by help of one hand in the other... It's possible to avoid all this...just takes a bit of thought and handling practise.. Why stop too early? Postings like mine will get hated by many, but might get others to think

Mickey Silvers's one coin through the table is fantastic.
the coin can even be marked,,and there is no gimmick. the spectator points to a spot on the table .Mickey then pushes the coin on the spot. the hand is raised and it is empty and at the same instant a coin is heard hitting the floor under the table ///// the signed coin.. vinny |

I saw Curtis Cam do his version at his lecture. It is a great routine. Can't wait to see it on DVD. If I remember correctly you just pick up a coin & pass it thru the table, no funny counting sequences.
