I have a trick wich you produce a silk scarf and turn it into the rosehead for its stem. I would like to make it float under a spectators nose. However I find the Indian Thread Reel too weak to support it correctly. Any other recomendations?

Indian Thread Reel..........ITR hehehehehehe

I think to make it float under their noses, thread is your only option, there are different kinds of thread out there, but if its too heavy for one, chances are it will be too heavy for the others. How about kevin James floating rose? You could start with a paper rose you make out of a "napkin".. Then turn it into a scarf, then a rose, would be a nice ending. If you were on stage there would be other ways, but you said under their noses. good luck!

Look in the "Thread" forum below, there are some there that have found very strong thread. You may want to look into some of that. It all really depends on what you mean by "under their noses" as well as what type of environment your working on. But I would ask this question again in the thread forum and your likely to get some good response.

By the way, the Thread forum is at the bottom but here is a link

Eric, i.t. isn't the only way to float a long stemmed rose. You can insert a stem of wire into a foulard or silk...insert the end of the wire into the rose and then hold out the ends of the silk with the rose in the centre....the rose floats at the center of the silk.

There are various ways...to do this, but this is the zombie method.

The best way to make a rose float:
HOW TO MAKE A ROSE FLOAT:

1 cup Ice cream
1/2 cup milk
1 (8oz.) bottle soda
1 fresh rose

Blend for 30 seconds
pour into a 16oz glass
and that's it!
ENJOY!

When I say under their noses, I mean showing the spectators up close without giving them the hint of thread. I should have made myself clearer.

Thank you for you helpful hints.

I will also be reporting KenW for his lack of vision in the magical art.

I have just been using the Spider Pen and it is absolutely amazing hat I can do with it and the floating effects made possible by this new thread device and method. I can easily do floating rose with it and the set up and such is a synch. Of course I do not like to burn the rose while it is floating, cause I would have to them rethread the reel on it, but the pen makes this very very easy to do should you want to go that route.

Kyle- Have considered the Spider Pen... but was concerned that it would look a little geeky to have a pen in my shirt or jacket pocket. Are there other good alternatives for placement? Thanx!

I thought that as well but you can mask the pen easily in different ways. This is what I have done and I use it for the rose and other effects with no problems at all.

In my tux shirt, one section of the shirt overlaps the other where it buttons down the middle. It is easy to fasten a pen on the inside and the other part of the shirt overlaps it. It is concealed and ready to go. An easy method that works well.

If you wear a tie (bowtie) you can easily fasten it to your collar and hide it behind the tie area. If the tie is black it helps conceal it even more.

If you wear a long suit tie. You can rig it to the back of the tie and rig it to the tie clip area. This is also an idea that works well.

You just have to experiment a bit as to what works best for you and your situation. I wear a red jacket in my shows and I can even place the pen inside my jacket so that it does not even seen sticking out the top. It works great this way as well. If I do not want to have the jacket on the entire time, I can easily 0lace the jacket on during my show and I am ready to go.

Just some ideas.

Kyle-
I've only see pictures of the Spider Pen... so I'm not sure of actual application. When I perform (restaurants, parties, schools, etc.) I'm often performing in a dress shirt and suspenders (not tux shirt) and often without a jacket.
Can the pen be kept in a trouser pocket and still be full functional?

Yes it can indeed. It just depends upon the height of the thread and where you want it for the effects you want to do. It certainly can work as I have done it this way myself. You just have to experiment with it a bit and see what works best for you.

You most definatley can use the spider pen without it being in "pen" form.
it all comes apart, and the main unit can be hooked anywhere (on your belt) if you don't want the pen in the pocket look. it's a great device - finding the spare thread real contained in the unit was a great suprise for me, great thinking and design....
