You can get it at Best Buy for $5.99 !
SHADE's not an Oscar winner, by no means, but it is worth a look by magicians. If you want more opinions try a Café Search, just type in SHADE and you will probably get more than you want to know. Cheers!

I rather enjoyed it. I'd have to say it's probably one of my favourite all time movies. This of course is coming from a guy who's close up act is based completely upon gambling, cheating, and coming off as a con artist.
What can I say, as an actor as well and I'd KILL to star in a sequal. In fact...I should go write a few letters. -Chris.

Blockbuster should have a few in stock for rental. Decent video and I think you'll enjoy the cardwork shown. The ending is pretty good. Definitely work the look.

Paul Wilson (now R Paul Wilson I believe) was the magical consultant and also had a cameo (lame) role. There are some pleasant exchanges but let's be honest, there's a reason this went straight to DVD. Poor man's Ocean's Eleven was my opinion but give it a chance and don't be gouded by others.

I personally love this film. No not an oscar winner but it is good fun to see what it has. And did anyone else notice that almost every name of evey character is named after a magician? I did I thought it was cool.

If you're interested in the subject matter (which lets face it we all are otherwise we wouldn't be here!) then it's def. worth a rental.
As a stand alone movie, the script and plot are lacking - it starts OK but the middle third lacks pace and direction. It didn't get a theatrical release due to all sorts of polictical nonsense at the studio. Quite amusingly Melanie Griffith is in it, for what appears to be... no good reason! I had to look away on her close ups - she's the new face of Botox. |

It takes you a peek inside The Magic Castle!!!
Plus many magicians are featured. I loved their discussion on the Charlier Pass.

I guess everyone has their own opinion of the quality of the movie.
I personally think that it is decent. Not great but certainly watchable. What I haven't seen anyone mention is the "Tricks of the Trade" featurette that is also on the DVD. It goes behind the scenes of a lot of the card handling that was demonstrated in the film. R. Paul Wilson is interviewed and numerous moves (bottom deals, seconds, etc) are shown. This is what makes the disc worth owning IMO. I picked this up on Half.com for about $1.50 a while back. Even if you don't care for the movie, "Tricks of the Trade" is worth this small price. David |

That movie blew. Sure, we all like magic, but I like decent movies too, and this wasn't one of them. Straight to video is always a bad sign.

Lets face it the thing went straight to video. The movie is good though, I enjoyed it, but my friends didn't. It's lame for them, card magic? It's only entertaning for a couple of minutes if you have ADD as most people do (unless your a sleight freak as many of us are), so if you were a magician or gambler it was probably good if, but if you happened to be a layman it's just another movie for you. After all, how many people in the real world would value the important of the strip out shuffle. It's like the Mona Lisa, it's a a masterpiece and it's valueless for artists and most people have heard of it and seen it and know that it's really good, but ask them why and they'll give you a dumb answer or none at all. My advise to you is watch it.

The one thing that really annoyed me was the bizarre notion that a player will instantly win a hand of poker by betting more chips than their opponent has left.
This was a major plot device but is ridiculous to anyone with the slightest knowledge of poker. "All-in" anyone? They even said on the behind the scenes featurette that they were aware of this but did it for dramatic reasons. Surely the game as it stands has ample possibilities for plotting an exciting scam. end of rant The moves over the credits were good |

Did anyone notice the small reference in the hotel room they played the last game in? Room 808. Oddly though, they used Bees in the last game.
The movie is good entertainment for card men and con men(or wannabes), but as has been stated, it is NOT a course on moviemaking mastery...lol. (Spoiler Below) I only wish Jamie Foxx didn't exit so early on. S. |

Just for the record. I don't believe straight to video is a bad sign. Boondocksaints is one of the greates movies ever made with their budget and that was a straight to video.

Having a huge stack is like being 20 feet tall. You force the person your playing to have a great hand. If they don't, they must fold. What are you going to call with a 8 4 offsuit just because someone puts you all in and you don't want to fold. If so, all I have to say is have fun watching from the side, because you wont make it far. Im not saying go all in every hand because your cheap leader.
