Hi all,
During many DC shows that I've seen, he does an ice breaker/audience interaction piece that involves holding your hands out, pointing your thumbs down, holding your hands together, and trying to turn them right side up. What is this called? Is it commercially available? Thanks |

Look in the book "Magic for Dummy's". It is describe there for you. Just remember that D.C. is a MASTER at what he does and if you plan to use it, then first study EVERY acting for magician's book possible that teaches you communication with audiences. I have been performing for over thirty-years and I have tried using this opener and on a few occasions, it failed me. Good Luck!

Thank you, KenW.
I picked up the book, the illusion is very straight forward. What I am really looking for is Copperfield's patter, so I can study his subtleties and create my own presentation. Was this illusion ever aired? Maybe on his Tornado of Fire special? Jason |

Funny, I found this illusion this morning. I had picked up a `Magic for Dummies' from the bookstore yesterday. I needed some simple illusions for a `children Party'. Anyway, the illusion didn't seem to do well with me. Maybe more practice??
The Doctor will see you now! ;-)

I don't think you really need to practice it. What really makes it effective is how you present it to your audience.

Presentation is everything in this one guys. Its just misdirection at its best. The effect is a real baffler when done correctly. I don't think I have ever been caught out with this one. Its all about taking the audiences attention away from you. Lance Burton performed this on TV in one of his specials.
One day I will write a book

I usually do this an a warm up in my adult shows, it works really well. I have never been caught doing it, it just takes a little practice to get the timing down. if you mess up on the timing then you are toast. I don't do it for kids because there is a different timing issue with them and you can't expect all of them to follow directions like adults will. this is not to say that it can't be done for kids, but I wouldn't.

Its all about the presentaion. I tried to show a younger magician the sublties on this and he failed the first time he tried. I think that if you try it a few times you will get it. Brian
If your not having fun doing what your doing....dont do it!

Okay Guys,
Hope your not suggesting that I don't have any chops. I have been in this game for almost 39 years now and YES,I have and DO perform this effect without blowing it! Geez, give a little insight at the possibilities for a new magician and the rest of you "go for my throat". LOL. I should have known better. JUST KIDDING GUYS!. Nice advice. KW |

Nice opener for Resturants as well. I never thought of associating the hand twist with the term Ice Breaker, but I think that it's valid.
