I cannot believe that nobody has mentioned Gordon Bruce!!!
Although he has not published very much, a couple of sets of notes, a one-man edition of "Pabular", and some stuff scattered among books and magazines, he is one of THE VERY BEST THERE IS. If you don't believe me, go track down what Vernon, Ricky Jay and many other cardmen that are being mentioned in these pages have to say about him. If you trust their judgement, then maybe you too will start to call for a book of Gordon's work to be published.
My new manuscript, "The Difficult Second Album", is now available at www.thecardman.co.uk

D'oh!!! How did I forget to mention Andrew Galloway?!?!?
Others had mentioned John Ramsay, but I forgot to mention Mr Galloway is still performing, and folling people badly with, Ramsay's routines.

If presentational ability has been excluded as some esteemed poster has remarked then I regret that the list is nothing but a useless waste of time.
Superb technique is useful of course but is completely valueless without good presentation. I am always amazed that "magicians" pay lip service to this wisdom but don't really believe it in their heart of hearts. The best sleight of hand man is the one who appears to be the best sleight of hand man even if he isn't. Showmanship and presentation should always come first. |

Old with cards: Ed Marlo, hands down. I spent ALOT of private time with him and he did not have a skill, he had a gift.
New with cards: Bill Kalush. I knew him when he was a chubby kid learning the pass. Now, an unbelievable talent whose work is effortless. |
