Hi,

I will soon be performing for a large group, on stage. I would like to perform some type of a prediction effect where three audience members are asked to give answers to random questions. I will then have an assistant bring out a chair or step ladder to stand on while he reaches to pull down an envelope that has been hanging from the ceiling since the begining of the show. He will hand this envelope to me and, once opened, the piece of paper inside will reveal my prediction of the audience's answers to the questions. As far as I know, this is a fairly standard effect. I am aware of how the effect works and would like to build it. If anyone has experience with this (building or performing) please give me tips and suggestions. Thanks for your help.

I have done a similar thing, but not with questions. I just pointed out random people in the audience and had them call out a color, number and word. That is strong and doesn't really require any type of build up. But if you wanted to give it a certain "feel" that will hit home, how about having one person call out their weight at birth, someone else call out the name of their childhood doll and the third call out the name of their first pet?

The actual working can be varied in a lot of ways. PM me the way you are thinking about and I will give you a couple of variations.

I recall an effect from Phil Goldstein's Color series (Is it the Blue book?) that plays along those lines. He uses a toy duck with a prediction in it's bill. While a duck wouldn't fit my performing style (a grebe, perhaps?) the manner in which he performs the effect seems like it would go over quite strong.

Richard,

Is this available from any of your lecture notes? (I know I haven't seen it on your DVDs).

Thanks

Sounds like you need the "epic" effect...3 slips of paper and 1 envelope is all you need, my friend. Depending on how you sell it... it's an old and still great effect.

Topas in Germany had an effect where he would ask a woman on stage and travel with her back in time to a point of her wish. Then they would enjoy an imaginary day in that time period, doing things and visiting events and places the Lady would like to. At the end he would open the envelope present all the time on stage and she would read a page of her own diary describing the whole journay.

It was a very impressive performance, when I was in the audience.
