AT HALF THE PRICE I HAVE SPENT ON WORSE!
If you have not seen these, look here http://www.themagicianscoin.com fast shipping and great service. I do not have any association with this company.. just happy to be off the wagon again! Andrew

They are beautiful and look to be easy to handle.
But, I wish they had a square hole, not a round hole!

A round hole is better because you do not have to line up the centers.

Yes but the square hole is one off the special things, that looks really weird and different on asian coins.

Does anyone have any experience re the paint coming off? I heard from quite a lot of people who had Johnsson chinese coins that the black paint would come off after a while, taking much away from the 'beauty'. Has anyone had theirs for long enough to be able to comment if this is an issue with the coins from themagicianscoin.com?

If you are worried about the paint coming off, order the unpainted set.

I bought several sets of coins from The Magicianscoin.com and so far I am very pleased with them.
The coins look great and the prices were very fair. In regards to the paint chipping problem, I guess it is to early to tell, but in my experience almost everytime I see someone pull out their chinese coins they carry them bunched together in a bag or change purse, I would guess about any type of painted coin will eventually chip or get worn faster by doing that. I carry all my coins in zippered camera card cases from Walmart (a tip I got from the Café)and so far I have had no problem with any of the chinese coins. I have e-mailed John from The Magicianscoin.com several times with questions and he has always replied the same day and seems very willing to do whatever he can to keep the customer happy. http://www.themagicianscoin.com/ I am anxiously awaiting his jumbo chinese coins and will order when they are ready. Hope this is of some help. Nick Zender |

I've got a set of the Gold dollar size sliding locking... They are great. They are getting a used feel to them.... that's ok though.... they are acquiring an older look. I could polish them up and they'd have their new shine.. but I like the look of the older tarnished coins.
I've got 4 sets of the quad-nests... hmmm wonder what I'm doing with those... anyway I've not noticed any paint coming off. John Jurney is great. He's an excellent craftsman and has great customer service. Jaime Schoolcraft and Todd Lassen... there's a new kid in town...

However, I admit that I have myself been concerned over the possibility of the paint wearing off of the Chinese coins. Although I initially dismissed my concerns, I am now re-concerned, since someone else has expressed the same concern. Hmmmmmmmm. Should I be concerned about this or not? Do any veteran performers of this trick actually have experience with the durability of the paint on the Chinese coins? Looking for truth in transposition, Dr. Faust

John makes some of the highest quality coins in magic. I wasn't aware he had a site up and running now.
I've personally met him, held his coins, used his coins. I have him do all the custom things I need. The highest quality coins you'll find, we're lucky the prices are very low right now, when he realises what he truly has they'll definetly go up. As for the paint I never had problems with the Johnson's or John Journey's work. Although I didn't use the Johnson's that much. I"ve had John's coins for almost 8 months now, perfect condition. I did however have a lot of problems with sterling.

The paint on "chinese" coins sits lower than the shiny surfaces. depending on how you clean your coins, this need not be a problem. I use a fine emory cloth on a flat surface, and that seemed to work well. I've had some of the old Goshman findings in various sized from back in 79, painted and in use for a LONG time now, and had on clean the coins up just once or twice. This includes my infamous chinatown coin made by Sasco back in 83.
My experience in this area led me to NOT use coin polish or towels on these coins. Have also spent some time painting the coins on my own and found that model paint seems to work well, and comes in nice colors too.
...to all the coins I've dropped here

I checked out this site and the coins look very nice and the prices are much cheaper than gaffed silver coins. However, I personally would not use Chinese coins alone instead of US silver coins. I would use them as part of a Spellbound or Wild Coin type routine but not alone unless it was a routine where a hole in the coin(s) is needed or the script demanded the use of such coins.
