I'm looking for a good source for vests, to wear either for kids shows and walk-around type magic in a restaurant. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks! |

Go to your local Western Wear store (if you have a local western wear store) and look for Wah Maker. Mostly they supply for Old West re-enactors and us Cowboy Action Shooters. They also make my Doc Holliday/magician persona easier because they have some pretty flashy vests all in Victorian style.

Two good sources for such things includes "urban wear" stores in the larger malls, and International Male which is a net order clothing place for "alternative lifestyle guys". Errrr, they do have some more flamboyant clothes including vests than you can usually find in the "non-alternative" shops. FYI.

Your better formal wear shops will have a selection of vests, also. However, they are not as durable as the ones from Wah Maker and COWS.

I'm sure many people know this, but it's probably worth pointing out that here in England, a vest is something worn under a shirt, and what is being referred to in this thread is a waistcoat.

The BEST way to do this is to go out and buy a $10 pattern and $10 worth of fabric and make one yourself. It will fit PERFECTLY and will look exactly how you want!

"1. thrift stores" I'm with David on this one. I found a great, show-worthy vest (or waistcoat, escapologist2001 ) in a thrift shop. Like new. Fits. Looks good. About $2.00. Worth a look. Sometimes you can find great stuff. |
