Interesting, I would like to see a rare earth tongue ring and a bending spoon routine, combined together. Smile

A most impressive Bar Trick that would certainly get you lots of dates!

Smile Hopefully they don't have "special jewelry" that's magnetic though... that could prove a problem... like licking frozen flag poles... Smile

Yes, I could imagine the hazards of a magnetic 'Prince Albert'

Smile Does it show that I used to work form Jim Ward (Gauntlet) and help put out the Piercing Fans Quarterly? Smile

I know... I'm a sick man... but I have fun!

Actually you are 100% correct!

A few years ago I did a radio interview during which I did the watch thing... I made it a big issue that I'd never attempted to "do this before" but invited listeners to place their watches, etc. by the radio to see if I could get their's to stop as well... at fate would have it a gent called in with the threat of a law suit because "I ruined his brand new Rolex..."

Needless to say, his claim didn't sit well but I have used that point and the few bits and pieces of "Press" that was available, as a PR advantage... to paraphrase a noted business philosophy "there is no such thing as bad press..."

Then again, I believe it was Stephan Minch that pointed out that as a "Mentalist" we are obliged to use any level of low, any element of circumstance, to our advantage. Smile

KArl Fulves mentions the advancing a digital watch trick, but I too have never got this to work?

Has anybody or is this a myth?

"The Time Pool" (advancing time on a digital watch) was in self-working mental magic. I tried everything to make it work, to no avail. I finally wrote to Mr. Fulves,(pre-email!) he wrote a nice note back to the effect that watch designs had changed since the publication, and it doesn't work anymore. Some earlier digital watches were set with a magnet; I suspect that was why it worked then, but not now.

I worked out a routine a few years back and did it for a while in bars.

The watch would be placed face down on the spectators hand then after concentration and the watch becoming heavier or warmer it was lifted to reveal that it had stopped. Taking the watch by the ends of the strap it could be gently shaken it remained still. Could be laid on the table it was still not moving.

There was also a variation where you tapped the glass at the front till the hands stopped. The winder was in full view all the time.

After replacing the watch back face down on the spectators hand and concentrating it started back up. The performers hands and watch could be examined afterwards. No magnet rings on fingers it could be done with no sleeves !

I did start to write a booklet. But never took it any further. I would imagine that someone has created it before?

I don't think I broke a watch never saw many of them again? I remember first time I was doing it in a bar to my friends watch. This girl was watching and took of her boyfriends watch an handed it to me in a kind of challenge.

I had just worked out how to do it was a bit nervous as there is sleight involved. Was difficult to keep a straight face when she said "I hate magicians but your not a magician are you?".

I saw Banachek do something during the 72-hour gathering that was very cool... he sped up the second hands on a barrowed watch...

It's very cool!

Who knows, maybe some day I'll be a cool as Steve and such discoveries will grace my life as well... Smile

I have also seen someone make the second hand go faround faster. There is the 'futour' gimmick out there but I found this too bug and not string enough eg it had to touch the watch. Does anyone else know of any simliar gimmicks.

Couple of nice effects in Will Dexter's 'Uncanny power'. Clocks stopped by looking at them, watches change time in spectators' hands.

Caleb Strange.
