Finally got off my duff and took a personal day to look into getting my license. Turns out I don't need one! You can busk in Little Rock without one if you don't charge for your show. I specified that I would specifically ask for tips, and that I would pass a hat. That caused some confusion, but they still said it would be alright. We will see.

LR is not a touristy area, so I am not sure how this will go. But I may be about the only one doing this, at least with magic. I walked all over the downtown area checking out possible pitches. There is a decent market area and bar and restaurant area near the river front with wide pathways, areas with seating, and it looks like my obvious choice. There is also a stretch on a main street about thirty feet wide by fifty feet long downtown near several hotels where there are conventions. that might work too.

Anyway, I am excited. Although, I did some of this at fairs last year, this will be my first real, asking for the money, type busking. I figure, I will start this month. I am still trying to get used to my larger balls (no pun intended) that I am using for my C&Bs. I also need to put the finishing touches on my script and finish rehearsals. Since I am a full time teacher, I am limited at this time of the year to weekends. During the summer, this will be my full time job.

As we say "MAZEL TOV Chris!!!!" Keep us informed on how you do. I had a job that took me to Little Rock about 25 years ago, all I really remember was it was a fun community except that the "God Squad" used to go out at grocery stores making sure that they didn't sell the wrong things on Sunday.

At that time they had the blue laws in effect that said store could sell toilet paper on Sunday, but not paper towels.

Good Luck

I guess toilet paper is more needed then paper towels.

This isn't as much of a problem anymore, although you can't buy drinks on sunday. On the other hand, several days after I performed outside at a church carnival last fall, the church got one of the flyers for the carnival back in the mail with all sorts of "magic is witchcraft" stuff written all over it. Creepy.

Little Rock, overall, isn't that backwards anymore. We sometimes wear shoes.

I wish you all the luck Chris. This is a step I would like to take but need a little more time. Let us know how it goes.
