That's an old 8 mm movie converted to DVD.
I had this -as a movie- ever since around the early 1960s.
Weather it's worth anything to you has to be your own decission.
IMHO, it's always a pleasue to se one of the oldtimers, the well known ones, perform.
He does an original C&B routine using square sponges, the rest is cardwork.
These days maybe nothing earthshuttering, but in his days it was as he has given credit for.
The chance to se Scarne perform is worth the money, depends all on your interest in magic/cardwork..

Yes, I have the Castle File also and like Werner said, it is worth having just to see Scarne in action in his prime.

Thanks for the link I will be ordering this. I think the price is worth it just to see his card work and him do the cups and balls.

Please let us know what you think when you've seen him work.

I haven't seen the movie (as I bought it as an 8mm movie put out by Home Box office) for many years, it's stuffed away somehwere, but I well recall what's on it and what he did.
Amongst a lot of bottom dealing and exposes, the C&Bs with square sponges- quite and original handling and routine- he did one of the routines that appeared in one of Frank Gracias first book, must have been re *Million Dollar Card Secrets* or another one, the DL thingy with a glas and a card below and above that changed places, an old *clasic* these days.

Frank G. had to later give credit re wherefrom (John Scarne) he *took* it..4 ace routine I remember too.

Of course all very well done and expertly handled..
Of course the thingy is B/W.
Please let us know your impression..

Scarne's name rings a bell. Is he the guy that invented that game that swept the nation called "Teeko"?

Well, he invented Teeko. It didn't exactly sweep the nation, though.

It's about 10 minutes. It's worth the $30 to see Scarne. There's a trick in there with strippers that's great. The hamminess of it is also pretty enjoyable.

I ordered this and thoroughly enjoyed it. So many of today's magiciansdon't even recognize the name Scarne apart from his beginner's card book available in paperback. Others think these legends (Scarne, Vernon, Daley, Marlo, etc) are "old news" with "old-fashioned effects" that won't play to today's "more sophisticated audiences." I guarantee you that if John Scarne were alive today, doing the stuff he did on this footage, audiences would be absolutely blown away.

An absolute delight and highly recommended!

Also of intrest is a video that pops up on E-Bay every so often of Scarne appearing on Tom Snyder's late night show in the late 70's(?). The same video has Copperfield and Ricky Jay on the same show.

I will get this video but by the sounds of it I will have to keep it with all those other 'adult' videos I have.
