I know Shaun Robinson (who is a member here) is a great fan of the book. And if you ever have seen that guy putting it down with some cards and coins... It really speaks for the book if he is keen on it.
Deal cards, not drugs!

I have never seen anything by Mister Kurtz which was weak or mediocre. Expect strong and convincing magic but also difficult sleight of hand.

O.K.
the book is 102 pages, and has 21 tricks. 7 card, and 7 coin. The rest may be regarded as other, although some are card pieces using blank card. In general most of the card tricks are very strong - and are longer routines rather than just quickies. I think they can all be performed standing but generally require a set up. The coin material is dominated by Trio and Flurious. Two very hard routines that will take a lot of work. The other coin tricks are pretty good, but not in the same class, and some require special coins - gold half dollers and the like. Again can be performed standing, and most don't need a table. The drawings are very good and the slights discribed in full although some are simplified from the videos. (?) Its also worth noting that the presentation is slightly more hip than most magicians use. Its interesting to read the patter and consider it against our usual "this is a coin" I was going to list the best stuff but its a bit pointless; its all prety good, and the presentations, atractive and quirky. I've used about half of the material.And. I really would recomend the book. The only downside is it has nothing on his misdirection ideas. For those you need "Leading with your head". Eddie |

The book has been out for over 10 years so I'm sure you could find a review in an old thread. It's still out of print but you can still run into a copy here and there.

I just bought a copy from Richard Kaufman about a week ago, so it is still available. The material is fantastic. "Hypothetical Possibilities" is a wonderful effect. Fans of Darwin Ortiz's "Dream Card" should take a look at this. Trio is almost a complete act in itself. You will definately find some bits and pieces to add to your existing coin routines in here. "The Empty Hand" is a wonderful subtlety for any card to pocket effect. A lot of wonderful stuff in this book. Very creative and fresh. Will definately get your creative juices flowing!

Hypothetical Possibilities is a terrific routine from UEA. I also use Inside/Outside constantly in paid performance. It's a stunner. If you can get your hands on this book, buy it.

Thanks for the replies. Are the other coin effects strong and impromptu except Trio and Flurious?

Hi, Gary Is with out a doubt my favourite magician, anything he has brought out, I have tried to get hold of, I cant think of anything I don't have. Unexplainable acts is one of the best reads you will ever get. His simple touches and psychologicala thoughts help in any routines. All the routines are great, and well explained with after thoughts. The illustrations are well drawn and well laid out. Hypothetical possibilities is the best card routine in the book, the routine includes a cross between ambitious card and card to wallet, with a bit of time travelling in between. Flurious is the best coin routine in the book and is well worth the price of the book, for those interested, http://www.topsecretmagic.co.uk have quite a few in stock, I know, I was the one who got Malcolm to order them in. Trio is great, but difficult to learn and read at the same time, but worth it. There is a great mentalsim effect whcih is like an impromptu psychologic coin execpt I like it more, and a great mentalism effect with more coins and a black bag, similar to wild coin. I advise getting this book, Leading with your head, Mayette Dreams, And his 2 lecture videos, creating magic video, lets get flurious video, etc. There are more and different routines on the videos. Special delivery is a nother great card trick from unexplainable acts, which is stronger than the marketed version. My advice, GET IT QUICK!!!

Everyone that has it will praise it so Im going against the grain. There is an UGLY side to this book: the orange cover
that's the only fault I find with it. Kaufman describes everything very well considering the difficult and very technical material. You will find some Exclusive coin sleights in here that some people don't want you to know about. A concealment that is VERY powerful. So there is something for everyone here.
Merry Christmas

I'm a Kurz fan, and usually rate the International lecture videos/dvds highly; but, don't touch the first International one whith a barge pole !
Its mostly the A1 stuff but not as fully explained, and at a couple of points Gary loses the trick in performance. I haven't got the second !! |

So you mean the 2 A-1 tapes (Let's Get Flurious and Creating Magic) are better than the 1st International Magic Gary Kurtz Lecture Video?
What trick does he screw up?
