I know this has been discussed before... but does anybody have any ideas on keeping a fire-wallet "fresh" so that you could use it several hours after "preparing" it. I thought about making an aluminum foil pouch and keeping the wallet inside that (airtight) in my jacket pocket... then when ready to use it, I'd insert my hand into my jacket pocket, slipping my thumb into the top of the pouch, open it and pull out the wallet. Any other thoughts on this?

Hmm, if you have a plasticbag, those with a zipperseal on it, you could probably have the wallet in thatone. The plastic bags are in various sizes, so there is probably someone that fits your wallet.

Thanks DeFlare!
Actually I had thought of that, but it's a little difficult trying to open the plastic zipper bag with one hand as I'm reaching into my jacket pocket. That's where I believe aluminum foil offers an advantage. Just stick in my thumb and spread it open. |

Not if you get the zipper style though, just slide the plastic zipper over and grab the wallet. The older pinch style baggies would be a problem though.
I'd also suggest doing something to anchor the plastic bag in the pocket so it doesn't shift around on you as you get the wallet out - you could pin it, but that'd defeat the purpose of an airtight seal. Glue, velcro, funtac, or wax come to mind, could be messy tho. Ah ! Glue a button on the bag, and sew in a loop to the inside of the pocket to hook the button on ! or better yet, use two, that'd keep the bag nice and stable. I only mention it because it's just this kind of goofy logistical thing that always seems to happen and trip me up at the worst possible moment.
Just hanging out with the rest of my fellow dregs.

Ha! I know what you mean Mystician!
I'll give your ideas some thought. My goal is to come up with something self-contained (and easily transfered)... where I can fill up the wallet in the morning and keep it in my blazer or suit pocket and have it easily accessible throughout the day - spur of the moment. Thanks! Now that I'm giving it some thought Mystician, I'm starting to think the zipper bag may be the way to go. I don't think it needs to be anchored... that shouldn't be a problem. Thanks again for your input! |
