Hi!
I went skiing and broke my thumb. I won't be able to use it for five weeks! What should I do? I want anything that can be done without a thumb. Any suggestions?

Sorry to hear about that Delmondo. Try practicing with your opposite hand. By the end of 5 weeks, you'll be ambidextrous!

I broke my thumb about a month ago. Note to self, don't wear cowboy boots in the snow.

I've been working on my mini chop cup. You don't need a thumb for that.

I broke a few fingers once, I started to learn with my other hand however I found that in theat situation the best thing to do is to learn tricks where the spectator does all the work, and you do little to none. the kind of feeling that you give a person when you do this is truely unbelievable.

Buy a really, really, really big TT.

Seriously though, take the opportunity to study the performance side of your magic instead of the sleights. Read some books on showmanship or develop innovative patter for tricks you already own. Rehearse the patter in your mind. Develop effective routines that will flow smoothly. This is your opportunity to focus on the fine details of your performance. By the time your thumb heals, your performance will have improved dramatically.

Read a book. Take a break from magic.
The time you spend learning about something new
could be very valuable in helping you come up with a
most interesting presentation for an effect you already do.

The Spanish Inquisition
Roman War Tactics (how and what did 125,000 men eat while marching around in 250BC)
Egypt (building of the pyramids)
John Adams' last words (US president #2)

Your brain will appreciate the change. And you will be a more interesting performer.

So go thumb thru a book.
