How do you stage magicians prepare, conceal and then produce throw streamers. (The ones that Jeef McBride uses) I have a bunch of streamers that I would like to use in a stage act but I don't know how to prep them properly so they don't fall apart.

Advice please

Well, there are a few suggestions that I have. First, where do you want to steal the streamer from? You can clip it to the under side of your jacket. Attatch a paper clip to a safety pin and clip it there. Or you can get it from your pocket while doing a balls to pocket or sum such. Also, if you don't have the Manipulation series that McBride put out, I highly recommend it.

It depends upon the type of streamers you use. The Kabuki Streamers (available from Viking Magic) are packaged nicely and don't fall apart prior to use. I use an old pager belt clip to hold the packet. The streamer packet fits nicely and the open slot is perfect for positioning the tab you pull to rip open the the packet. Plus I can clip the holder just about anywhere.

If I use Cresey streamers, I slide three or four layers of coils into the cardboard tube from an empty roll of bathroom tissue. I cut the tube in half and velcox it to the inside of my hat or table. One more thing, I scotch tape the ends together so they are easier to grab.

I would be interested to hear how others solve this problem.

I use the same method as Jim for the Cresey Streamers and the Kabuki. It's simple but it works. The tape across three or four steamers really helps. Make it thick enough that you can feel that edge to hold onto when you throw them. You could put a very thin piece of tissue paper around the outside of the four coils and then they would stay together a little better when you stole them from the bathroom tissue roll. You could squeeze the packet a bit sideways to break the band before you throw them. I usually never use the additional paper band.

I usually open with hand streamers when I do them but otherswise I would steal them when I pick up a wand or something. A slight shelf inside of a box table would make the steal very easy.
