Hi friends,
I'm a close-up magician in the Raleigh-Durham, NC area. I've just been tapped to book talent for a possible weekend of magic this summer, sponsored by a large local corporation. They have quite a sizable budget, and an impressive number of large-sized venues. I've never performed illusions, and I've certainly never been on the booking end of things. My first questions are: what price-range do full-size illusion show book for, and how would I go about looking for one to book? Thanks, |

Joshua,
I'll throw my hat into the ring and offer a bit of advice for you - before you start shopping acts, get a good deal of particulars for the event AND the venue. Ballroom : Ceiling height, stage size, capacity, use of fog/haze, hanging points for lighting rig are all questions that come up. Theater: this is a bit easier of a venue to work as these places are used to this type of work. Usually, I only ask theaters for stage size and number of pipes and size of attic (Space above stage for flying) Theme: Can you simply ad an act to the bill or would the client like the presentation customized ? Location: what’s covered, transport, accom., meals ? Marketing materials: for promoting the event ( Color / BW ) Depending on dates, I would be more than willing to work on this with you. Best,
Steven Kline

Good advice Steve...Everything that you mention is asked by myself when booking an event. Both the venue and patrons define what type of show is best suitable for the event.
Joshua, you may also check with entertainment/event planners for additional assistance. James |
