I bought a Flaming book (electronic) and stuck it away for a year. I take it out to finally use it and I'm missing the glow plug. My youngest brother owns a hobby shop that's into RC airplanes and he has a variety of sizes. Does anyone no the size, type or number on these. Thanks.

? Are you talking about Jim Pace's effect ?
There's some nichrome wire there but nothing I'd call a glo-plug .. ?

Glo plugs size for any ignition system is determined by two things; voltage available, and size of the opening that it occupies.
You want the smallest possible size so you aren't constantly eating batteries, but you need it to be big enough to fit, and to provide enough ignition surface to cause a flash. Typically, a glo plug is not the best ignition system for a fire book (In my opinion) because you either need a dangerously flammable liquid (yes, there are things more flammable than ligher fluid) or you need a flash cotton primer. I am hard core technology guy, and love electronics, but my fire book contains a bic lighter ignition system. Anyway, back to the glo plug question. Just get one and try it out. They aren't that expensive and if you have a brother in the hobby business, that should help. BroDavid

I gotta stop staying up so late, for some reason, I read the original post as Flaming "comic" Book. Sorry about that - completely different book !
BTW, I had a question about the electronic flaming books - from their description on various dealer websites, it almost sounds as though the book automatically ignites when you open it, which is something I'd rather have control over. Is this the case, or is there a button for manual control ?

Hello:
There is the Paul Diamond book which is being sold by someone again (can't remember his name) and then there is the black and gold version that most dealers are selling - I'm not sure of the manufacturer. Both work with a glowplug and push button, so that you can push the button a moment before you open the book, and have flames come out immediately. You really have total control. I've never had to use flash cotton or anything other than lighter fluid for either fire book; I've discovered not to get the glowplug wet or to put too much fluid on the pad - that seems to mess things up. I bought extra glowplugs from Marcello Contento. He had an ad in MAGIC sometime ago and was selling glowplugs specifically for hot books. I'm not sure how to get a hold of him, but I'm sure someone will. Ron |
