Ok, this is going to sound a bit strange and not well thought out.. because it isn't. But if you take a zombie type ball and various colored manipulation balls and put them together, you get something that resembles a solar system. This idea goes with an act I'm making. I would like to somehow make something that would hold them and then vanish them. What would be really cool is if the manipulation balls (planets) could spin around the zombie ball prior to the whole thing vanishing (vanish would be done via being covered or whatever)One idea would be to simply have it all vanish, another would be to have someone/something appear in it's place. For instance, if this thing is sitting on a table and is covered, then when the cover is removed, a person is sitting on the table in it's place.
I'm really still in the brainstorming stage so any additional idea's would be appreciated. |

I use the little orrerey set that you paint yourself (the sun even has a light if you like) I think scientific american sells them. The planets are on the arms that move, but they are not motorized. I use mine to so the tale of the dragon swallowing the sun, among others. Not hard to sombie the sun ball, it already has most done by way of the light fixture! about $25 if I recall

A like the idea! A few things came to mind:
It might be a bit complex to have them all float with no visible means of support, but you could have the sun to float away. You could back it up with a story about the eternal struggle between light and darkness. Have a happy end with the sun reappearing. You were talking about covering it, so how about "solar system asrah" (at least that sounds REALLY grand ). Cover it up, it floats up and then vanishes. Like I said, I like the idea. I feel that in this case you really have to think carefully about the story instead of just doing it. At the moment I tend to see this as a great story about the universe told with the aid of magic-in this case, the magic isn´t the intrinsic value but rather a support element. When done right, this could be a signature effect for you. Sorry if my post is not what you need. I just feel that in this case, the story and the philosophy behind this particular effect are very important.

Thanks for the replys. Mvmagic you and I are thinking alike I had also concidered doing some type of asrah effect. This is part of a 10 minute routine I'm working on and I do think that it's a key part of the routine. My original thought was that it was going to be a silent act but I like the patter idea as well. If nothing else, it could be done via a voiceover.
I'm open to other ideas as well, keep em coming, but that was good stuff. |

Hi n3cromanc3r,
I actually built my own solar system a long time ago. I built it to the scale: 1 inch = 1 inch. You've probably seen parts of it. It's pretty famous! --- Guy |

My original idea was something along the idea of the vanishing corousel with doves. You might be able to look at that.

I did a google search for vanishing corousel (and carousel) and came up empty. Do you have a link to this effect?
GuySavoie - Nice job, needs some work though, keep at it. |

Here's a thought.
If you use ping-pong balls and styrofoam balls for the planets, they will be very light. Design Master spray paint will work on styrofoam. You can use various things in combination to make it all float.
