I have the text of a REAL jam auction. It's from an old timer that's still doing it. It's long, so I won't post it here. If you send me email at coneyislandtodd@aol.com I'll send it to you.

The last Jam Auction I saw was on Tottenham Rd. in London. I didn't see the whole thing, just the come on. It was in a storefront that was flashed out nicely with xeroxed logos of major electronics corporations like Sony and Fuji plastered all over the walls. It looked very legit and an yet it was something that probably cost less than fifty bucks to do. There was the come on man behind a long table filled with boxes of equipment. He was grinding away with some great lines about he wonderful values people would be getting. "There's this lovely old comple that come to London every year from South Africa for holiday. They always stop by here to pick up gift for the grandkids. It's always nice to sit down with old friends like them for a spot of tea." He was chuming the tip with slum and them froze them in as a big wall-eyed balagoola closed sliding doors behind them. He saw me watching and snarled, "Ya in, mate?" I shook my head and he slammed the door infront of me. I pity the marks that were in that room.

The Auction scene in London has been all but squashed,,,due to a TV fly on the wall documentary exposure with footage of the bully boys in action.
Oxford Street used to have three closed down store fronts, which opened in sequence as the Auction moved between them on a day by day basis. A clever but expensive way to keep one step ahead of the Law.Violant action by the heavies on unsatisfied customers coupled with public opinion have pushed these type of scams out of the centre, but they are still to be found working (Mainly at weekends) In the Eastend and Peckham areas,,,(Peckham area seems to be full of crime with the Police scared to go in and sort it out!!!!) England in 2006!!!! I felt far safer walking the lower east side in NY than I would in Peckham? Ken. |

It is cool. Actually, it's more of a "mini jam". It looks like they were only going for a 20 dollar touch.

Todd, years ago, in Milwaukee, Bob Brown put on a session of the Jam Auction for PACC members. I have a video of Bob and Jay Marshall. Bob did not do the blow off because he said he did not feel comfortable doing it with a room full of cops.

Todd, If you get a chance could you email one to jastudebaker@hotmail.com?
My ring prez is already letting me pitch Svengali's and fuzzles at the meeting and our annual show (all sales less cost of goods go to the club) It probably helps that I pitched his lecture notes at SEAM. . . Next step is a jam auction!!!! MUWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! I have a 13 page, poor-quality, photocopy 'story' whose front page is "JAM AUCTION CATALOG No 695, A.B. ENTERPRIZES BOX 875 PEORIA ILLINOIS". This isn't a how-to guide, it's more of a story of some folks that have seen jam auctions. Fun reading. There don't appear to be any markings of who printed it. It was clearly hand typed, and not using a computer, either. It's been around awhile. I got it from the guy who had to deal with the PACC cops the next morning when they realized they paid "twenty bucks and got a bag of" um- 'doody'. He tells a GREAT story of the whole thing. Bob should have gone for twenty bucks more for the thumb cuffs! Anyway, I'd be happy to scan and send this to folks - if anyone's interested let me know. |
