Name: Miraculous Ploys
Author: Kenton Knepper
Price: about £20
Pages: 43
Difficulty: depends on your experiance of suggestion
Out of 10: 8

The book basically sets out to show effects using 'kentonism' as it states in the opening pages. Kenton Knepper feels that people are using his thoughts found in Kentonism or Wonder Words wrongly and in here are some effects that show the right way to use it.
The effects on the whole are very good. Although some just seem like page fillers (eg. OM Smoke). Most require little set up.
As with a few of his releases, this is a book that some will love and some won't. I like it quite alot. Some effects seem to us suggestion to it's max (eg. Chill) while some go too far. Here is a run-through the different sections in the book:

-Introduction : an explantation on the book and some ways of
revealing a card.

-Stirring: A 'coffee stirrer' spun by yourself cant be spun by a spectator . This effect is quite good and gimmickless if you can get it to work properly. People in the UK may find it hard to get the required materials.

-My Spirit Pen: A pen stands up on it's own in full view and writes a message. This version of spirit pen has the adantage of te pen not being covered up while it writes. I have used it and it got a good reaction. This requires a gimmick that 80% of people have.

-Readings:A Cut Above: A spectator calls the spectator to stop as he moves scissors up and down a piece of paper with words listed on it. The paper is cut on a word such as 'passion' while the rest read 'failure' etc. This is a good effect for a walk around or a quickie. Nothing amazing but useable.

-Post-It Psychometry: Different spectators write different messages on a post-it pad. By reading the message, the performer can identify who wrote what message. This effect seems to be looked over by many who get the book. It is a good solid effect, but may need a bit of changing to get it to work properly. One of my favourites.

-Chill: A spectator feels a chill on their arm when the performer says so, apparently by using suggestion. The arm warms up when instructed to. This is the best effect in the book and one of the best uses of Kentonism or suggestion I've ever seen. It can be as long or as short as you like and is very strong to the spectators. Perfect.

-Touched in the Head: A spectator closes their eyes and the performer mimes scratching their head. The spectator swears he touched them, but the audience saw that he didn't. This is just a more practical version of Banachek's Psychokinetic Touches. A good effect.

-Patterns in a Rainbow Mind: This is just an extension and a way of making a well known card effect stronger. I think the basic effect is called Gemini Twins or something like that, but don't take my word for it. It is decent but seems like one of the lesser effects in the book. It does make the trick stronger by a long way and the trick seems more like mentalism when performed this way but this takes up 4 A4 sized pages which is not really needed.

-OM Smoke- The performer makes smoke appear at his finger tips.Like a lot of people, I don't see the point of this and just seems to be put in to make the amount of effects in the book increase.

-The Weight of Thought- The performer gives information about coins in a bag following by a psychometry effect. This requires a lot of preparation and will be good when you get it to work if you can be bothered (unlike me). There are 3 versions of this in the book.

-LET Mystery Happen: The final and theory section of the book. It explains how to make your magic stronger by using Liberate, Enchant and Touch to your advantage.

Overall I found this book to be good and better than some of his other works. Most of the effects are useable and and strong to perform. The effects are quite original and for £20 this is decently priced compared to some of his other works. It will help if you have read some of his other works although as he explains, this is not necessary. Chill is suggestion at it's best while OM Smoke is it at it's worst.

I find it hard to give more than 4/10 to this book.
I doubt that KK himself ever performed these routines, and if so I would like to see it.
there are many "ideas" as with all of KK books. I'd be happy to be proven wrong, I got rid of my copy almost immediately after buying it. I doubt if I ever will buy any KK material in the future.

p.s. I disliked Kollosal Killer as well...

I have seen Kenton perform some of these effects and they look amazing regardless of what you think of them. Kenton's material is not for everyone, as you can tell but don't dismiss the power of the effects he releases. In the right hands these are pure magic.

How is the spirit pen in comparison to a glorpy? I use it, but how much better is Kenton's version?

Kenton's will take you a little longer to put together (you need a commonly available gimmick, and I think you'd next to experiment with the paper to a certain degree) but has the added feature that they actually do see the pen "write" on the paper, as opposed to the whole proceedure being under a cloth.
