I have made J.S.Berry's smoking goblet. Has anyone used this for a bizarre effect?? Right now I place a red silk into the glass, wave my hand over the Goblet and it catches on fire on top, move it around and a white smoke emits from the Goblet to putout the fire, I pour a red liquid in a glass, wave my hand over the glass with red liquid in it and pull out a dry red silk again... Any ideas???

Smile O.k. I'm going to play the bad guy first... (admitting my ignorance as to if Jay put the workings of the Goblet on the market for home-made crafting.) BUT... if you simply learned the method and made the thing YOU ARE IN THE WRONG! JSB deserves his two-cents in royalty and performance rights money...
... like I said, I don't know if this has been set into a public accessible format as of yet. I wouldn't think that the case, in that Jay was selling the goblet on line not so long ago.

Now, if in clear concience you can say you are in the "right" with this (vs. your right to steal material and use it) I'll suggest you look into material that can focus on a mystic goblet or contents with said goblet, starting with the White Wolf game books and story concepts... seems such a device could easily and logically be used at an effective level by someone portraying a Wizard, Vampire, Mummy, or Werewolf or related evil hunter type personage... but then, what would a 500 year old blood sucker like me know? I love vampires.
Because you have to drop down something red it is good if you dress like a vampire, act like a vampire, give them the idea that you might be a vampire with other effects.
The problem come when you put out handkerchief, you must justify it!If you want it to be bizarre you can't say "Wow few light, smoke blood bizarre..." all that you do must transmit the idea that it could be real, and not a trick.

I could be wrong, but I seem to remember seeing an ad for a video where Jay taught how to make this. I'd presume that's where WR learned it from. Maybe not, but I'm prone to assume the best of people until proven otherwise...

It was from the video, Andy, The only prob I have with his effect of lighting the wick to make the goblet catch on fire is the flint wheel thing. Any other ideas on how to light it??

Switch over to an electronic styled lighter system would be the easiest and probably least expensive action.

Jay also used a Dry Ice variation to this in which Co2 pellets dropped into a heated section of water within the cup... bear in mind, this is going waaaaay back in time... was probably a prototype concept.
