Just got the effect recently.
The Buddha can be handed out for inspection before and after the performance. The gimmick is small enough and ditiching it would not be a problem. Cups to cover it could be borrowed but a small cup just enough to cover the Buddha would be great. It would be slightly more difficult if a bigger cup is used. Those who own Eye to Eye will know what I'm talking about. Here's a little history about the Buddha which may help you in building patter around this effect. The name of this Buddha is called Laughing or Smiling Buddha and sometimes know as Happy Buddha. He was a Buddhist Zen master in China. He stands for prosperity, happiness and longevity. Though he has already attained Nirvana, the Chinese people also believe that he will be reincarnated. He was therefore called Buddha of the Future (Maitreya Buddha) and will take over the roll of Siddhartha Gautama (Buddha) when the earth is reborn. It is believed that rubbing his belly will bring good luck and prosperity.

Hm, And with the buddha, you could conceivably cover it with 5-6 cups making the revelation that much stronger than the 50-50 chance you get with eye to eye....

And you don't have to stuff gimmicks you know where! Here's the complete description if you don't want to hunt it down. Quote: The Magic Bouddha by Jean-Pierre Vallarino

In Chinese, we call him Xiao Fuo. "Xiao" = Smiling, "Fuo" = Buddha.
In Singapore, you can see lots of people rubbing the Laughing Buddha's tummy for luck.
