The new Simon Lovell "Bunko Book", has a nice section on jam auctions.

Good job Whit and Don:
Teaching us old dogs new tricks is really a kick in the pants. I had a friend that did some great jam auctions up in Canada a while back and he taught me a bunch. So on that note, I'll be reserving a check for you and look forward to seeing your work on gathering a crowd, because once you have them standing there... Their all yours. May hearts be light and hats be heavy... |

Ironic, is it not, that Don Driver doesn't know when this product is being released? It's ok, I understand why you don't know, but I thought maybe it would be nice of him to let you know

"Ironic?" How is it ironic? I don't know when it will be finished, how can I tell Don Driver?
Look guys, I am working on it. It will be finished when it is done. I did not start this thread, and I did not announce this product. I have been traveling trying to make a living--will be in Flint, Mich this week for "Day of Magic." I will get it done as soon as I can, and it will be a good product. I am really kind of sorry that Zach started this thread. There are 15,000 members on this board--I get email after email asking individual questions about the product and "what will it cost?" "when will it be out?" "Will it have __________ on it?" You know, answering this kind of email is time-consuming and annoying. Please, wait until the School for Scoundrels announces the product and tells you when it will be out, before getting all excited. We are working on a number of products, not just this one. I make my living traveling and performing, and my schedule is very changeable. So please, give me a little break, fellas. |

I know the DVD will be great. Don Driver is my neighbor down the road and we're lucky that he comes up to Lebanon, Tenn's Parkland to do some pitching, that's about a mile down the road from me. I heard he's going to be there this weekend pitching some decks. He's the best as are you. Talk about living in a good spot. We'll be the center of the busker's pitch universe for a few hours this weekend.
Be careful out there on the road Whit. I think I told you I'm headed to Denver this week myself. Don, if you're watching, I will be back next week. See you then. -=tabman

Mr. Haydn, I can see that my post clearly offended you and looks like it was the final straw. I hope you accept my apologies.

No, you didn't offend me, and no apologies are necessary. I just thought you used "ironic" incorrectly--a pet peeve of mine. I don't mind this thread, really. It is the large number of repetitive personal messages and email that fill up my mailbox and require me to answer several sentences each time that get under my skin. I would much rather answer here on the open thread where I don't have to waste time repeating myself to everyone. I didn't mean to sound as miffed as I did, I was just reacting to the day's wearying load of e-mail. Answering 20 or 30 e-mails a day takes a big chunk of time that could be spent working on the dvd. When they all are asking similar questions, it is a little frustrating. I don't like to reply with form letters. So, please, if you have a question that others might also be interested in--like "when will this product be available?"--please put them here on a public forum. Personal messages and e-mail are meant for questions and comments that are not of general interest. |

In any case, we've all got something special to look forward to with two top people in the field creating it: Don Driver and Whit Haydn.

I feel guilty and I did not even post here.
Seriously, I am looking forward to this, since this edge thing you guys keep talking about seems to be eluding me. If I look up, and there happens to be people at the rope, I do pretty good. But right now, it is a surprise.

Nice breaking the ice there Jim. Also, of course, I can't wait for this DVD either (although I don't have money for it at the moment anyway!).

In speaking with Don Driver, I liked the definition that he gave me regarding the jam - "You give them the donut, and sell them the hole." I got caught up in a jam auction at a county fair in the Midwest when I was a kid, so I can attest to the accuracy of his definition. It all started out with a cool pen that the Apollo astronauts used. It wrote upside down, and as a teenager I thought that was a great idea. After a time, I had a brown bag full of things I didn't need, and empty pockets. Yes indeed, I was a customer in good standing with a bag full of donut hole '8)

That's the link to talk about his "Svengali Pitch" video. The new one isn't out yet, so there can be no review, except from the few who have seen some of the rough edits.
I'll guess you'll have to wait right along with the rest of us.
