Anyone know of a good resource or routine to start my quest to learn this skill?

McBride has a few sets out. One is The Art Of Card Manipulation if that's what you're mostly into. He also has a set that involves coins, thimbles, and billiard balls. I believe it's called Stage Manipulation or something of that nature. I've not seen the ball/thimble series, but having seen his other stuff, I don't imagine you'd be going wrong with it.

Videos and such are great........ but for beginners I think nothing beats a tutor. Are you a guild member ? If so, pick someone there to learn from.
If you use a video and are doing something wrong which prevents you from moving forward a video can't say..." Your doing that wrong...try this instead." Once some basic skills are learned ( in person ) videos can help you add to or improve on them. Good Luck, Tim |

Thanks for the suggestions. I am not a member of the guild unfortunately. I may need to look into that. Not sure if there is a chapter near me.

It really depends on what manipulative objects you want to start off with. I would concentrate and focus on one area at a time otherwise it becomes quite overwhelming for the student. What area are you intersted in?

I'm not sure about SAM but the IBM has a ring in Watertown. For more info contact harpwand@seacoast.com or 978-462-9954
You will never find a better investment in your time than hooking up with other magicians if you are new to the art. DON'T under estimate this. If you are not near Watertown then contact the IBM about starting a ring in your area http://www.magician.org and watch how easy it is to get a group of magicians together. I bet there are lots of magis in your area in the same boat and just as many wanting to pass on some advice. Best, Tim |

You could sign up for the Chavez Course in Manipulation. It covers all items, cards, coins, cigarettes, balls, thimbles and doves. They have a mail order course as well as personal instruction. You must go to Las Angeles for the personal instruction.
