Well, maybe I can "trump" some of this. I never saw Del Ray perform live. I did see a knockoff artist do some of his work before he died. I knew Del would not habe liked what he saw, because the knockoff artist had no personality, no charisma, and there was no MAGIC. You couldn't see how it was done, but you really didn't need to. That's what happens when the mysteries are tipped to the wrong crowd. Even if it is only a crowd of one.

But where my "trump" comes in is this. I used to work for a company in Houston that dealt in a certain aspect of the things Del did. One of the fellows at our main store helped Del set up all his electronic bits. This fellow's uncle was a magician, and I have known the family for years. If there is ever a permissible opportunity to write this material up, I may have an "in" for it.

But I won't write it up without the proper clearances from whoever it is that has them, and I won't start the project without these clearances, either.

Nor will I say who it is.

I just spent time with some of the Youngstown Ohio boys who were very close to Del. I know who his equipment was willed to but Del's nephew took some of the intregal parts so the act may never be duplicated. We don't think he did it on purpose but the result is the same.

I am trying to get the Youngstown guys to sit down with a video recorder and do stories of Del. Del's brother is still alive and he can fill in the time when they were in the orphange. I hope they get to it.

Richard,

Recently, I purchased an old video tape of Del working at a business convention (4 men sitting around a table and Del did 5 or 6 of his classic effects)- the quality of the black and white tape isn't very good, yet you can clearly see the brilliance of this man - remarkable, amazing and unique!
