Alright fellow magicians, how are you all doing, Fine I hope. Who is your magic hero? Mine is David Copperfield, his tricks and illusions are fabulous. Also I like Paul Daniels. I am just in the middle of reading his autobiography and I am also learning card tricks from his magic book Paul Daniels Adult Magic.

Wow, magic HERO, Well for me I have to give credit to those that I call "The Top 4"
1. Paul Harris 2. Doug Bennet 3. David Harkey 4. Jay Sankey They all come from the same school of thinking, if you study their work you'll notice a common thread of cleverness. They are all simply brilliant, plain and simple. Except for PH being number one that list isn't in any special order.
You'll wonder when I'm coming, you'll wonder even more when I'm gone. - Max Malini

1) Houdini
2) Paul Daniels - Excellent and skilled but not everyone's taste. 3) Geoffrey, Bungle and Zippy There are others but these have been my main influence. Regards, Kris Sheglova
The above is all rubbish, except that which you chose to believe

Greetings and Salutations,
Wow, heros, eh? I don't know about heros, but the most influential magis on my magical thinking have been ... Cellini, McBride, Colombini, and Lauflin, all masters in the "play big, pack small" theory of magic. All of these guys can pull a great show out of a shoe box ... well, not literally, but close enough to count. Joe in KC Choose an extraordinary life, live a great adventure! |

The first Magician that I can recall making me believe in magic and making it magical has to be Doug Henning, He was doing stuff with coins (cant remember exactly what) and he actualy sat in the audience to perform an in "the spectators hands" effect (it was a little boy and girl I think) Magic!.

My primary hero is Joe Riding, for no other reason than the fact that he was the person who really got me into magic.

It's a tough question to answer really, so many magicicans have influenced me. If I were to just choose a couple, I would have to say:
1) Doug Henning - Showed me what magic should be. 2) Mark Wilson - Gave me the dream of being a magician 3) Dai Vernon - Pushed me to strive for perfection in magic. 4) Howard Thurston - Gave me a goal to pursue. Just what is "The Wondershow of the Universe?" anyway 5) Juan Tamariz - Reminded me, it's not what I perceive, but what my audience perceives that is magic. Thanks, Richard Green

Doug Henning.
Doug was the first magician to really make magic work on TV with his annual Doug Henning's World of Magic specials. (The first four were actually aired live, but when a tiger got loose in the NBC studios, they decided to play things safe and began pre-taping the specials.) I remember watching Doug every year when I was a kid, and those illusions still stand out in my mind. Vanishing an elephant, sawing two women in half and switching their tops and bottoms, walking through a brick wall, and his twist on Houdini's water-torture trick. Doug understood that there was more to magic than just tricks -- he made it a performance, and regarded it as theatre. In the documentary series Grand Illusions, one person commented that "Doug made you believe in magic, because you got the sense that he also believed in magic." There's a great clip in Grand Illusions, showing Doug in his pre-fame years when he studied under Dai Vernon at The Magic Castle. Two generations of great Canadian magicians -- I only wish they'd played more of the clip! |

As a newbie to magic, I have been most influenced by:
Mark Wilson I happened accross his book in a bookstore 4 years ago which started me down this magical adventure. Dean Dill - Watching his coin miracles is definitely inspiring. Derrek Dingle - Music with the cards Wilford the Wizzard - The first magician I ever saw (I was 10 at the time)
Magic is fun!!!
