Just curious if anyone has ever substituted baby powder or some other household item for fanning powder.
I don't have any fanning powder in the house, but with a 5 month old daughter, I have plenty of baby stuff around!

You can use the baby powder if you want to make it almost imposible to fan your cards. The fanning powder is zinc stearate (estearato de Zinc)

Never use baby powder ever. I did it once because I thought all powder was the same...boy was I wrong. Get fanning powder,it will make your life much easier. |

Good thing you didn't try to use gunpowder!
No, not all powders are the same.

I hate the smell of baby powder but I have used it and it was alright.

Baby powder makes things slippery. Fanning powder makes things "clingy" so the cards drag against one another while fanning. Two different powders for two different purposes.
Some people think it helps, but one try of the right powder usually changes their minds.

Baby powder ivce found isn't a suitable substitue for fanning powder. I ruined a brand new deck with that.

I only use babypowder for old decks that won't slide.

Trust me, fanning powder does not work well on babies.

Has anyone tried traveling abroad with this in their suitcase?
I can't imagine it is a good idea? I never use Fanning powder, never found a need to. I did one try baby powder and what a surprize, it ruined a pack of cards :@( In Magic Steve Dela |

Years ago, two types of baby powder were available. The more popular one was similar to the baby powder we see today. The less popular one was actually zinc steatate. Magicians looked around to find this product because it was identical to fanning powder but much cheaper.

I forgot to mention that Zinc Stearate is available in spray cans, available from industrial supply houses. It's used as a mold release in injection mold presses.

MY buddy uses Zinc Stearate on his quintuplets, and those kids fan perfectly.....
