This is something very small, but I am a great believer
of adding lot's of little bits in a routine to create an effective "tapestry". As background.....if you tossed coins and recorded the heads and tails that came up, you would find large "clumps". That is, lots of heads together, lots of tails together, as well as the smaller runs. In fact the average person has great difficulty replicating a "random process" such as heads and tails, they tend to never have enough "clumps" or runs, and can always be spotted when compared to a computer. If you simulate a computer to do random draws on say a checker board, once again you get clumps as well as alternating runs because of the increasing permutations. So what has this to do with anything? Well, by using the psychological opener of 37 say, and getting people to raise their hands who got it.... You are virtually certain of getting largish "clumps" of people together. It is something you draw people attention too...either like minds or collective wisdom or whatever your presentation. The thing is... it looks weird, it's counter intuitive and yet a natural occurrence. I have done it twice, it's a great little throw-away that tends to build your case as you perform. If you do the opener bit, you can add this straight away. Cheers. Tom |
