I was just checking out their web page http://www.rostamimagic.com and it was down, probably for maintenance.

I would love to read a review by a well read person with at least 20 years of card magic experience and a wide knowledge of existing methods for color separation.

I’m going to be very careful with this review as I don’t want to reveal anything.
I’m very disappointed with the effect. It’s not a money issue, and I’m ok with spending $20 on something I will never use.
But this version of OOTW, is one of the weakest I’ve seen (I know 4 versions; “galaxy” is the best IMO).
The demo video you all saw is NOT THE TRICK YOU ARE BUYING (it's the bonus one)!!! The video version DOES NOT meet almost any of Greg’s conditions.
I would prefer not seeing any Demo, than a misleading one.
The “real” presentation (which has NOTHING to do with the demo one) is long and boring. Greg does some “things” with the cards which just don’t make any sense (sorry for being vague on that).

There are 2 things which REALLY bothered me:
* The effect can not be performed 1X1. you must have 2 spectators. (If I knew that, no way I would buy the effect). Even the demo one is performed to 2 spectators, but the video was cut (left side). Greg, why would you cut that? It doesn't reveal anything about the trick.

* Hard to perform with a bicycle deck. (even Greg uses other brand in his “real” performance).

I don’t rate a trick based on that, but I believe 90% of you will know how the trick was done in the middle of the presentation. A layman won’t.

The only good thing I have about the product, is that Greg did a very professional work. The video quality is very good, and the explanation is very detailed.

I can't recommend this effect.

Yikes I bought it based on the demo one on one. (Haven't viewed it yet...)

If it sounds too good to be true....

but of course, you may have been expecting too much. The perfect method has probably already been found... that's until we get decks of cards made from digital paper.

I would love to hear what you have to say after watching the "real" presentation Smile

I believe Greg must remove this demo from his web site.

I'll quote a PM I received from another member:
"This would have made a good magazine article or an item in a book. "

I actually think the effect and method are good and it is one of the most powerful versions I have seen. Remember guys, we are not trying to fool the magician but the lay person, and we as magicians know a few of the things that may be happening. We must see an effect through the eyes of the spectator and I for one will be using this. How many versions of out of this world can you do by handing out the deck to be throughly shuffled. I have performed Galaxy a few times and I have always thought the spectator wanted to shuffle as well. With Cosmos you can do that and show the cards are really mixed.

Was everyone really expecting a freely shuffled deck and the spectator really seperating the cards? Mind you, this is what the spectator has done in their mind and that is what counts.

Great job Greg!

Yes, I did a quick view of the expanation and agree with Roya. The one on the demo should be removed. Somewhat false advertising. I fully expected the trick could be performed one on one and meet all the conditions. For two spectators it's a reasonable effect/method. So, for what I thought I was buying and what I got, I am disappointed.

The Demo is good to explain what a color separation trick is all about but it has nothing to do with Greg's version.

Hi Daren,

Thank you for a positive review, I really appreciate it. I would love to hear what you might think of the bonus tricks as well.

Hi roya,

Let me tell you a little bit about my thinking when it came to putting up an edited demo video. I'm really curious about what you think:

If I had left out a demo video, you would of all said:
"I want to see a demo video, before I buy."
"It can't be true if he can't show it to us."

That would mean that I'd lose sales to the people that won't buy without watching a demo.

If I had done a complete unedited video of COSMOS, it only takes ONE of you to spread the word about the method, and once again I lose sales.

But, if I put out an EDITED video that maintains what your spectators will see, without the possibility of tipping the method, then that's the best of all worlds.

Please remember, the lady in the demo is NOT a stooge. She is seeing EXACTLY what YOU see in the video.

here is what your spectators will remember after seeing COSMOS. (notice I said SPECTATORS not magicians)

* I shuffled the cards
* NO one ever saw the faces (since they where all face down)
* and then I PERFECTLY separated the red cards from the black ones!!! Smile

These where the conditions that I set for MYSELF when I designed COSMOS. I believe COSMOS does leave this INCREDIBLE impression with your spectators. And I think if you where to try to perform it you would also notice the same thing.

take care guys,
Greg Rostami

I don't really agree with that. The trick does, in fact, meet all of his stated conditions... EXCEPT one. Whether or not that lone condition is a big deal to you or not depends on what you're planning to do with it.

As mentioned before, the method described deals with only two spectators, so the description of the effect is a bit misleading in that respect. However, all of the other conditions listed ARE met. I do agree with roya in that the demo should at least show both spectators doing the separation. I understand the video is trying to protect the handling, but I think for many customers, knowing the restraints of how many people you can perform it for is important. At least this should be mentioned in the "effect" portion of the website.

With that said, if you're ok with having to perform for two spectators, this effect is well worth it! In fact, involving two spectators head to head is a strong point in the presentation. I don't feel that the presentation is boring at all. The idea of two spectators participating in an experiment is, in my opinion, engaging and fun. I love Greg's presentation in this regard.

Also, roya, I don't see how it's any harder to perform with a bicycle deck. I tried it with bikes, and it's fine. Maybe you can PM me about this issues you have with the bikes?

But the video is NOT a performance of OOT Cosmos (edited or not)!!! It's the bonus version, which has nothing to do with the conditions on your web site!

I understand your concerns when trying to have a demo for you product. But this is definitely not the way to go...

The demo video is not what you are paying for. You are paying for a secret. I can see why Greg did what he did... If you have eyes, you can read the effect description, and get an IDEA of what the effect is and looks like, you don't need a demo!

Come on people! Do you think Vernon had the choice to see a demo? Also, about the presentation: you are supposed to be a 'story teller.' This should mean you have the capablities of creating your own patter. If Greg's is boring, then so be it, make up your own... That is what magic is about: Think outside the box. Also, if this isn't for you, that is cool, and I am sure Greg will agree. One thing is NOT right for everyone, and that is how it will always be.

I am not sure if there is false advertising going on or not, but when I buy it, I will give an honest review, and leave the demo video out of the question. The demo vid might seem like an important factor, but it isn't, it is what you do with the effect. Sorry if this seems rude, etc., it is not meant to be. And btw, Roya and Tom G, I respect that you don't like it, and this post is in NO way remarks thrown at you two. I just wanted to make that clear.

Later,
James

Hi guys,

I just bought Cosmos this morning and I think it is worth every penny! It's AWESOME! It satisfies all the conditions that are stated on the website. I think that it is by far the most powerful color separation that I've ever seen. In comparison to all of the other versions of OOTW, Cosmos is the cleanest performance. BTW, noone has yet commented on the bonus tricks the Cosmos Kicker and Let It Ride. I think LetIt Ride is a great solution for performing color separation while standing up. I totally recommend Cosmos.

All the best,
JasonF

Well, I did not buy this yet, even if I was a little curious to see if it worked as I guessed it would (Curiosity is what killed the cat!) Smile

But, IF all of you agree at least on the need of two people for Cosmos to work, then I'm not interested in it.

No disrespect meant to Greg Rostami but there are other versions already out with the need of two persons to work (whether thru a card c**mp or thru a sw**** does not matter from spectator point of view).

Almost everyone has his own version of OOTW (yes, I have my own version too!) and evidently Greg Rostami version will fully delight someone and will seriously disappoint someone else...

That's life, guys!
Then you'll rise right before my eyes, on wings that fill the sky, like a phoenix rising!
