Hi Guys

I am going to China for a week of outdoor shows at an arts festival. Checking the contract I spotted an invite to sell items related to the show, with a stall and sales person provided. I just drop my stuff off at the start of the festival and pick up whats left, and the money, at the end of it. A free extra money making oppurtunity, how could I possibly refuse!

Has anyone here ever sold swag in China? If so, what goes well, especially when being sold off a stall rather than pitched?

Cheers

This will sound dumbass...BUT...American 'Western' stuff if you have access to it.
Like the Germans, the Chinese are intriqued by Cowboy crap.
Also anything related to LUCK and Gambling...
Be careful though...much of the Swag you find ANYWHERE will have been made there!!!! hahaha.

I have a cool 'zibit I'm just finishing up...it's the remains of a Chinese DEMON
in a small wooden Chinese chest...you could do a 'Grind Show' Smile

Good luck with your stint and HAVE FUN! There will be a lot for you to learn as well!

Jealous.

Hi Doug

Thanks for the advice. I would LOVE to have a go at a grind show, but the oppurtunity isn't there. Next to the performence space is a stall which is staffed by the festival. All the performers can put whatever they have on the stall and the staff will sell it for them. But there is no pitching or talking the stuff. Except perhaps a few lines at the end of the show. I am only doing 2 x 20 minute shows a day and on big stunt so the stuff needs to sell itself. Most of the acts are musical, so I guess there will be a lot of CD's and tapes.

All I can think of right now are pitch cards, I can get them for very little and sell them at a profit even in China. Plus if they don't sell I can still use them in the UK. They will be easy to transport to China too.

The Zibit sounds great! I want a chinese demon of my own. Perhaps I will find a real one at a little backstreet market there Smile Sold to me by a 150 year old bearded chinaman. Though I went back to that market many times, I never saw the man or his stall again, it was almost like he vanished into thin air.

hehe

Hahaha...The Chinese Demon is sold already anyway...

But the Pitch Cards sound great...especially if you Autograph them...good luck with the personalizations though! Smile

Maybr you can make up a quicky booklet about yourself. There is a neat software out (Blue Squirel...however yo spell squirell...you know...the little animal with a fluffy tail...) anyway...this program ATUOMATCALLY changes any word document into a multi page booklet on your printer with regular paper...it is a masterpiece...put some photos together and a bit of story BS and staple them up.)

Though cards would be easier to ship over with you I guess.

Have a great trip...how cool is this!!!!! Please report! You will do well with that crowd! They LOVE Humor and slapstick and mysteries!
