Between September 25-28th there will be a magic convention featuring Duane Laflin as well as many great headliners.
He is considered to be one of the best children entertainers. I enjoyed his lecture so much. I actually wanted to buy everything he had to offer.... You'd better check: http://www.mars.org.il |

Duane is a perfectionist in what he does. His lectures are the best because of what they contain and what the entertainer walks away with. He is always a headliner and offers a different lecture at Kidabra every year.

Duane is not just one of the best childrens entertainers, he is one of the best magicial entertainers!
I saw him at Hank Lee's a few years back and, as always, he was outstanding. His advice is dead on, and if he is near to you, at any event, go watch, listen and learn! |

I agree. I saw him at Kidabra last year. WOW!!! He spoke of the simplicity of magic. Not doing simple tricks but that if you focus on the simplest solution to making the routine happen then you can really focus on what is important, entertaining the audience. Just the way he carried himself spoke volumes as to who he is. It was a great lecture.

HI,
I confess I have not seen him perform, However I have seen him perform a school anti drug show which he put out for sale on video, on that particular video he did not come across as entertaining to me at all, but rather very stiff and over-rehursed. almost puppet like! perhaps it was just this performance as I say never actualy seen him live Phillip |

Well, that is what makes a horse race, a difference of opinion.
Having seen him live several times, lecture many times, and I also own many of his products, I will say I couldn't disagree more with the above assesment of Mr. Laflins work. Go see him and judge for yourself. Mark Tripp |

I have seen Duane lecture 2 times and he is one of the best out there. He is genuinely very nice and a great teacher. He will spend time after his shows helping you any way he can. Also his wife is just as nice.

I hope I am remembering this correctly. The gist of what happened is as follows:
At Abbott's Magic Get-Together about 4 years ago or so, Duane was the MC for one of the evening shows. As the lights went down for the beginning of the show, people were still shuffling to their seats and Duane noticed a little girl close to the stage(probably about 4 or 5 years old) who had lost her parents. She was VERY scared. Rather than just call for somone to come get her, he took her up onto the stage and started doing some magic for her. In doing so he managed to get her name and her mom's name. The mom then came up to the stage. By that time he not only had managed to calm down this little girl, but had her smiling and laughing. The mom indicated to Duane the girl belonged to her and Duane said, "Just wait a minute, we are in the middle of something," and continued on with his trick for the little girl. When she went away with mom to their seats she was the happiest little girl and had completely forgot that she had lost her mom 5 minutes earlier. I don't remember what happened during the show that night, but I will never forget the showmanship and compassion Duane Laughlin displayed that night that turned a frightened little girl's nightmare into a fun-filled night she will never forget. |

Does anyone know if Duane will be lecturing somewhere in the near future? I would love to see him.

Does anyone know if his theater is done? He and Mary told me in April, 2005, they were building a dinner theater in Colorado? Has anyone heard more on this project?

Jewls,
I had several days with Duane and Mary in-between local shows, and we discussed this theater in Libby, Montana. It is, as Mary put it, soooo close; some minor touches with rugs and small stuff. Today, they are headed to Minnesota to visit Mary's family, then off to Colorado to visit with the children, and then back home to complete the theater and get it off the ground. We all wish them well in their new venture in a town that has no entertaintainment, but a summer visiting population of thousands! They did their homework, got their good deals, and now (very soon) they are ready for the grand opening!

I just attended a Duane Laflin lecture in New York. I must say, I was very impressed. First of all, he is a very nice person and a great performer. His attitude and insights towards magic are wonderful. And I learned a few things as well, which is why I went in the first place.

Duane Laflin's book "Greater Gospel Magic" should be required reading for ANY magician of any kind. He gives frank advice on showmanship and business that I've not seen elsewhere.
I'll admit I was skeptical of Mr. Laflin when I first encountered him. "C'mon," I thought, "Nobody's THAT nice." He's the genuine article. A good person who cares deeply about his art. And although his performance style is not my cup of tea, my wife thought he was the best magician by far at a KidAbra conference we attended some years ago. If you have a chance to meet him, by all means, do so.
