I believe we should have an ethics forum where we could discuss exposure, copying, repackaging ect. With all the copying and what not these days people should stay informed about this stuff. Exposure, copying, repackaging ect. can stop. Informing and discussing is the first step.

Seems like a good idea to me. I know we alread have "For the record" but that is for clarifying credits. This suggestion would be more akin to pointing out who isn't crediting correctly.

Forgot about that. But in the desciption it says "This forum is for topics and discussions related to the history and origins of various sleights, moves, and handlings." note it say's HISTORY and ORIGINS which is not ethics.

The subject of ethics comes up quite a bit in "Food for Thought."
Here's a question for you, though -- what do you think such a section will actually accomplish? I'm fairly fed up with people turning my work into e-books. I've only issued one e-book.

I understand your frustration Bill. Having a forum on ethics would serve no purpose as sadly ethics are something one has or does not have. All the talking, discussing and opinionating never seems to change minds. I am afraid it would just turn into a donnybrook rather than a helpful ongoing discussion.

As it so often has.
Once in a while, after a bit of PM-ing, I have managed to change someone's position on what I considered to be an ethical breach. But it is very difficult in most cases. And when it works, it is because the person was actually an ethical person. He just needed to be informed of the actual breach. And it's really odd. I have seen instances where someone posted that he had been approached to manufacture an item for a local shop. He would be informed that he would be stealing, then he would claim that it was for his own personal use. Odd.

If you start the forum negatively it will not be able to succeed! For some reason, I have seen many ideas that are/were good destroyed at birth by the "Awww, that'll never work" gang. Look at many of the posts here for an example...Being positive has made America great in spite of the type that says " Railroads and aeroplanes will never work." I think that an ethics forum is needed.

I understand your concern Sanscan, but remember I am not the one who would make the decision it is simply an opinion I have formulated while participating in similar threads at this very site.
Of course I would be happy to participate in such a forum, and of course I could never be upset with anyone who actually spells aeroplane correctly. Most lump it with airport and airlines. Frank Tougas
