Ok, in June I have my first children show. It will be in a Kindergarden, and the age of the children will be between 3 and 6. There will be around 30-40 children (that's what I have been told).
My character will be that of a "Traveller", coming back from a trip to some exotic places, who wants to show some of the wonders he discovered to the children. The following effects are not in the order I will perform them. I just would like to hear your opinion on my character and on the effects, whether they are ok for children of that age. 1. Magic Tea Kettle - I will tell a story about my travel to the end of the rainbow where I found this tea kettle. Then I produce colored water, show the silks inside the kettle, and so on (nothing special here). 2. Konfetti Box - This is my end effect. I want to produce candys inside the box. 3. Beards of Iran - An effect where I tell a story about a woman who has a strange experience (check this link for the prop involved: http://www.thetrickery.com/?nd=full&key=6124 ) So, what do you think (this is not all I want to show, I'm still looking for two more effects - I don't want to do more than 5). Thanks, Magixx

Why not use the Magic Tea Kettle to tell about how special each color is and why all the colors are needed to make the rainbow so beautiful...perhaps convert the silks to a rainbow? It's been done a million times, yet plays well when done properly....
you wrote about the tea kettle (nothing special here). Make it special....it is special, sounds like your character is special, too. I'm not trying to sound like a know it all...just really focus on your character and the story...the kettle can be a wonderful effect! Sounds good so far! Good job! Chris |

You could also do the Afghan Bands, while weaving in a good story about them.

I take it you meant BEADS of Iran. Anyway sounds like a good start, just don't lecture to the kids. Get down on their level, I mean physically, not loom over them when asked to come on stage. Especially four and five year olds, I will be on my knees. Play with them, treat them with respect. Also don't forget other themes from countries such as the wonders of Alladin, Rope magic from India, Silks from Asia, and maybe somethign odd picked up at Hogwarts perhaps the mysterious Zombie. Break a thread!

Magic Stamps book, based on Magic Coloring Book can be a pretty good one. Routine it where you actually collect stamps while travelling and you don't have to time to arrange it. So you asked the kids to help you, magically.
Multiplying Bottles would be nice too but I don't think it would relate well to kids. If you want an alternative finale, you can try Square circle production. I know there are a couple of oriental-styled production and it can look pretty nice where you mentioned that you bought a box from China, etc. You can routine Professor's Nightmare too. Say that you saw a Chinese Chef trying to create equal length of noodle threads. Hope it helps. |

After doing the tea kettle trick, why not follow up with rainbow fusion, and as Chris McBrien suggested, make a rainbow? And, if it's okay to make a little bit of a mess, how about snowstorm-in-China....having brought back some snow from a mountain top. (The educational angle here could be to explain that Everset is the tallest Mountain in the world.)

Hi guys,
thanks for all your suggestions. As I said, I have no experiences with kids of that age, so I'm a little bit worried that they could miss my points and that I can't control them because they get bored. @ Mighty Fool How can I produce this rainbow? I really should think about Snowstorm in China. I would fit perfectly into my act I think.... Oh, and I should mention that I have an othe reffect: 4. Magic Coloring Book - I will make the children rub on their cloths and then rub the colors onto the book. Magixx Magixx

It's the rainbow eclipse by Jay Scott Berry. I think Hocus Pocus has it. It gets the kids involved real good, and you can use 4 volunters at once. As for the coloring book, if I may suggest....make your own! Those things are a CINCH to make once you know the method, and you won't be limited to the coloring-book aspect that way. For insatance, you could have your book of magic...but it's blank, so the kids help you put first the words (using the alphabet) then the pictures (using colors)....both of which could have an educational angle to them.
