I would appreciate peoples' opinions, comments, reviews, recommendations to any or all of Mr. Jack Dean's mentalism effects that are currently listed on Hocus-Pocus site.
Thank you very much. Michael

They are all top rate. Jack Dean was a great creator. Some of his effects form the basis of other "updated" handlings from other mentalists. His "Perception" is one of the better drawing duplication routines.

Jack should be remembered as a very creative fellow. I believe Paul Alberstat sells his material these days.

Jack should be Canonized (with a really big cannon... he'd appreciate that! Big, loud and in your face, just the way Jack was...)He was a creative genius with one of the most gracious demeanors you could ask for in a human being. Paul and I have chatted a few times about our memories of this amazing man and his awesome contributions to our craft.
ANYTHING with Jack's name on it is a Must Have in my book! |

Has anyone here tried "Replication by Jack Dean"? How does it compare to other peek card cases?

Trilogy are Great effects, and the best pen I have ever seen! It gives you some insight to this amazing performers mind....(the effects, not the pen).
Paul Alberstat also carries these great effects.
Well then...

And I'm also looking for a review on Perception
Basically, I need to know how practical and natural it is and looks in a stage |

Elliot B - Replication is a "basic" design peek with a simple business card wallet and business cards. The inexpensive price should allow for the "curious" to learn a brilliant move associated with the effect even if you do not use it.
Jaun D - Perception IS a STAGE effect and it is very clean. Jack Dean used to perform this effect all the time. PSIncerely Yours, Paul Alberstat |

I have some of the Jack Dean effects.
All of them are impressive. What I like about them is how he takes classic mentalism effects and dresses them in a new look and feel. I don't think you will be dissapointed. And as Paul Alberstat said on some of the effects, even if you don't end up doing the effect, you will learn something of interest. |

I like the looks of the notepad and pen of trilogy. Very classy kind of design. so am deciding to buy it
But would like to ask those who have it. With all due respects of not exposing anything, does the gimmick provided run out eventually? I mean the notepads provided etc, can we substitute it with normal ones? If theres exposure involve, then please ignore my post. PM if anyone is more comfortable there. I will probably purchase it off hocus-pocus Thanks Cheerios
Think outside the box, cos people are all thinking inside now!! - ClouDsss

The notepad is ungimmicked. In fact refills for everything are readilly available.

Ok, I just received Jack Dean's "Perception"
And while it is a re-working of a very old idea, IT IS FANTASTIC! In fact, I'm going to use this for all my stage Drawing Duplications from now on as it blows them away! I have to admit that I'm not very good at purchasing pre-made tricks as I've been burnt many times in the past and books are really my thing. But after receiving this one, I'm now considering several other effects of Jack Dean. Basically I'm now looking at his "Trilogy". Has anyone ordered it?, what can you say about it? Is it suitable for close-up, stage? Let me know and Thanks Juan D |

Juan - Thanks for posting your thoughts on perception.
Paul - Thanks for the info on "Replication". I'm still considering this one (along with the Enforcer and Magician's Choice booklets) Elliott |

To everyone, it is my honour to continue in Jack's tradition of keeping both his ideas as well as his name ALIVE. It was my promise to his widow Judy that I would keep everything in Jack's same way or would improve upon them in the same way as Jack did. Jack Dean had an encyclopedic knowledge of magic and mentalism and it shows in all of his effects that we sell. We strive to provide accurate descriptions of everything as well as low, affordable prices for everything and our customer service in selling, as well as support has been said to be exceptional as well. Please feel free to contact me directly at paul@mindguy.com anytime you have a question or concern. We stand behind everything we sell AND believe me, I use everything in my own shows and have done so for may years. all our effects have been tried and tested and are real world effects designed for professional use.
As for Replication, it is a simple to do, simple design duplication, the move with the wallet alone is worth the price as it can be applied to the use of a Jaks style wallet or any similar type. The nice thing about it is the use of business acrd to write on, leaving them for the participant to keep so they always have your contact information. Hope that explains it all, PSIncerely Yours, Paul Alberstat |

I have had the pleasure of visiting with Jack in his Memphis home/workshop.
He was a wonderful human being--gracious, kind, soft-spoken, a delight to be around--and was a great resource for anyone interested in mentalism. He read and studied everything on the subject, and was very generous in sharing his knowledge. While I can appreciate that most readers of this thread may be more interested in Jack's products, I couldn't resist the urge to mention what a nice guy Jack was. |

Perception is a reworking of an old idea, and like that old idea I found it to be ineffective. The props are well made, and will work as described but I find, just as in Anneman's original routine, that the 'moves' are unmotivated and suspicious. Without giving anything away, I haven't found a good enough reason to approach the helping spectator in the way described.
