I don't think my throat can take much more busking, so I wanted to get some type of mini amp system ... went to Radio Shack and looked around. Found an unpriced box for a "Voice Amplifier" so I took it to the counter and asked him how much it was ... that I didn't think I could afford it, and if he had any other mini amps in stock.
Well, he must have wanted to sell this pretty bad ... cause he offered it to me for the same price that the mini amp sells for! They sell for $50 normally, certain models cost as much as $100. And to think I picked it up for a grand total of $13.62 - batteries included! http://www.radioshack.ca/estore/Product.......=3212015 I'm scheduled to start performing again tomarrow, and I am very much looking forward to having this baby with me! Rehersal shows I won't need to project my voice which will be a very good thing! You just clip it to your belt and talk into the mic. Not exactly a PA system, but should allow my vocals to relax. Many buskers claim that having a PA can take away from the act, and I generally tend to agree with them - but I think this is unique in that the sound will still be coming from me - it clips to the belt, so as I move around so will the sound. That's quite a deal man. I agree with you on that, the sounds moves with you. I may have to look into getting one of those for myself, and for 14 bucks, I don't think you could go wrong.

This was my orginal intention when I went in to the store:
http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?ca......277-1008 If you plug a microphone into that, it should do the trick - I doubt it would make any noise louder than you could without it, but you wouldn't be yelling. I don't think what I got would be any better sounding, it just has a really really really nice belt clip that is no fuss won't slip off. You might want to try that if your on a budger, just plug a mic into it. Let us know how it works. JoeJoe

My voice doesn't carry at all. Unfortunately, it seems only the Canadian website carries this, so unless I get as lucky as you did, I'll have to resign myself to ordering it.
Let us know how it works, and save the rest of us $50 if it doesn't.

I don't have the bucks nor the suitcase space. That's why this little belt amp looks so appealing. I know it won't replace a good Taxi or other amp, but I really don't expect it to.

I have a fender Amp Can. It is a small unit that fits in my Camera bag but projects very well.
The voice is a bit tinny compared to a taxi but compared to the belt rig it sounds like a million dollars. BUT it is pricey (about $175 with no mic), compared to $13.62 it is REAL pricey. I have seen those belt rigs sell for over $100. You got a great deal Joe-Joe! Best, Dan- "MT is one of the reasons we started this board! I use an amp can as well.
I don't like it. It looked so cute, but the round design is an ungodly pain in the ass. It won't fit into anything. For the money you're much better off with the Fender P-10, which has higher wattage, is about half the weight, and is square. Danny, you're not actually carrying that thing in a camera bag, are you? I would think it would rip the strap right off. |
