Read my own quote.
Magic is a dream in which we put ourselves in the fantasy of the reality that surrounds us. It's a wishful thinking that all human kind posses. It's life itself. And I for one believe in it.

"This too shall pass" is also an ancient Chinese, a saying for an Emperor who wanted something to say on all occasions.

"Magicians stop thinking too soon."
Something like that, by Al Baker I think. and "Our senses don't deceive us: our judgement does." - Goeth |

"I don't know Marge, trying is the first step towards failure"
Homer(Simpson) I am sure this was directed at magicians, somehow. I also am clinically insane.
Magic is doing improbable things with odd items that, under normal circumstances, would be unnessecary and quite often undesirable.

"Impact is more important than method"
--Tony Andruzzi "The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science." --Albert Einstein "Magic is designed to fool the brain, not the eyes" --John Mulholland "If you were half as good as you think you are, you'd be twice as good as you really are" --Dai Vernon
I don't have a solution, but I admire the problem.

"If you think something can't be done, get out of the way of those who say it can." This is a quote from a business text (Barker, The Business of Paradigms) but I think it is very relevant to magic as well.

Gary Barnard writes: " 'A magician is an actor, playing the part of a magician.' - Robert Houdin."
This tired, old chestnut, by Jean-Eugene Robert-Houdin, is probably the most misunderstoon line in all of magic. It certainly does NOT mean what it appears to say, although far too many think it does! |

Well, first of all, Robert-Houdin did NOT write in English, therefore the quote is wrong. A more correct translation would be, "A conjuror is an actor playing the part of a magician."
What Robert-Houdin meant was that we are more than jugglers and sleight of hand people; we should strive for performance values. And the way to do that, he suggests in that quote, is if we conjurors (NOT magicians) learned and used more of the actor's arsenal to play the part of a "real" magician. A "magician" in his day would be what we would call today a "sorcerer". And a "conjuror" is what we would call today a "magician". Hence the confusion when he is quoted. And I hope I made that clear. |

Thanx from me too Peter, though, not being born in an english speeking country, also I well note the difference re the original saying, I don't can 'understand' the difference between 'magician', conjuror' and 'sorcerer'.
Until now, to me it was all the same..maybe just diff. words for the same thing originating from diff. 'times', 'centuries'. I've to investigate this a little more to get an understanding re the difference between thes -as you pointed out- different 'meanings'..
