Hi everyone,
Here's something I am thinking of doing for a parlour/bar stage act: * Open with Vanishing Cane to silks (McBride) - Transition - appearance of full wine glass from silks (Ellis or Maeda method) 1. Miser's Dream to wine glass (Dean) - no volunteer - Transition to rope routine from cigarette box ("smoking after drinking") (McBride) 2. Cut and restored rope - volunteer - Transition using Ring and Rope (McBride) 3. Whit Haydn's Comedy Linking Rings - volunteer - Maybe Embarrassment-transition using Professor Cheer's rope routine - no volunteer 4. "Change subject" to Mental act: Bank Night (Osterlind) - 4 volunteers - Abrupt Transition - What's a magic show without a card trick 5. End with Rat Pack - volunteer It's looking like 35-40 minutes. I also want to come up with a 15-20 minute shorter act, but I'm not sure which ones I should cut out yet. Edit - actually now that I think about it, for 15-20 minutes: Open with Vanishing Cane to silks Appearance of Wine Glass from silks Appearance of rope from cigarette box Cut and restored rope routine or other scissorless rope routine - no volunteer Rope and Ring Linking Rings End with Rat Trap I appreciate any input you all have. thanks. |

All that you have listed is solid material and the routine reads like it will flow nicely. (the one exception is Rat Trap.... I don't know what it is . What is the effect in Rat Trap ? )
Oh, well, one thought does occur to me : Does your character fit having a fancy black walking stick/cane ? If I were doing this sequence of effects I might consider using a Lit Candle to Silk rather than the Cane . Then continue directly into the wine glass production from the silk. |

Rat Pack oops not Rat Trap... I misspelt it the second time - Curtis Kam's card-finding routine with a deck in a rat trap. There are mixed opinions on it (because it can also be considered a stunt), but I like the concept a lot.
Thanks for the input. I had thought about a little fire to the act, but didn't think about the fitting-into-the-character idea. That's a good idea. |

Sounds like a nicely thought out set list to me.

"What's your drug?" she asked. "Hope" he said, "The most addicting one of all."
