Hey guys!
I saw steven pillay's thread about his cups and balls routine, and I saw how it grew, and grew. Well, I'd like to do that, you know, havea video clip of my routine. Only problem, how? I don't have my own website to post it on, and secondly, I am not that great with computers. I can video tape myself, but putting it on the computer, and then the web- uh-oh. Any advice? I'll ask my computer teacher, but I bet you guys know some stuff too! Thanks a lot!

It can be as easy, or as hard, as you want it to be.
The easiest solution (and probably the cheapest) is to buy a cheap webcam. They're available for as low as $30 and as high as you want to spend. It will store directly on your computer, and then you have to find a place to put it. There are a few "free" storage sites that are advertiser supported where you can put these, or if you have a personal web site, you can just stick it in a folder somewhere and share the link with us. http://www.magicvideodepot.com is specifically designed for people like you to post your video clips. If you already have a video cam, unless it has a digital output, you need to "digitize" it by buying a video capture device of some sort. They cost more than a webcam, and some of them require a rather powerful computer just to run. The one I have at work cost around $150, requires USB 2 and a Pentium 4 or it won't even load the software. There are cheaper capture gadgets as well as dedicated video processor cards available. So, the best way is probably to keep your video cam for what it's good for, and buy a webcam for uploading.

If you already have a Mini DV camera or a Digital 8, then you can record with that.
Once you have a video, PM me, and I'll tell you what to do with it.

At the start I use a webcam. If you're using a webcam use lots of lighting.
For the last video I got a DV (DIGITAL VIDEO) camera and a tripod. It works great and is a relief after using the computer and the webcam to record. You record the footage. Then you just connect the video camera to the PC via USB and then it reads just like a hard drive. You just drag-and-drop onto the desktop and upload it onto http://www.magicvideodepot.com or your own webspace. I got my webspace free from my Internet Service Provider so maybe you have something similar? But for the start, even though it was a little hard to set up the right angle the webcam worked great. Hope this helps and good luck with the routine. They magicians on here are great and will have your routine evolving in no time. All the best, Steven. |
