Hey Ed!

McBrides Candle is very reliable and great fun to use. I highly recommend it. I don't know if they are still readily available. But if you can get one I'm sure you'll like it.

Magically yours,

Wedging a match into the end of a candle and then placing the match head in a good match pull would also do the trick.

I would also second McBride candle. It works great and a lot you can do with it.

Thanks Kyle (& all of you!),
Im contacting dealers to see if anyone still has one of Jeff's candles around. Thanks for the input.

You may want to try Denny Haney of denny Magic. He is a great guy and I think he may just carry them or know how to get you one. He also has a website online that would give you access to his e-mail.

You can make a self-lighting candle by using a utility lighter (the long lighters used for lighting barbeques and fireplaces). Epoxy the lighter into a piece of PVC pipe . The PVC pipe can be painted with Krylon Fusion spray paint in an "off-white" color to look like a candle . The only drawback to this is that you have to be holding the candle at the time of the ignition or have an assistant hold it .

I would suggest Fantasio's Ribbon and Candle. It is a vanishing candle with a flint wheel attached. The McBride Candle is no longer available. David Todd has basically explained the McBride Candle. It has many draw backs.

There is a company that makes a candl from pocket that is self-lighting. It is usually a metal tube with a bic type lighter inserted and a clip to keep it light.

Because the mini coke type lighters are no longer being made. A simple candle from pocket cannot be made any longer. The best was a fluid lighter inserted into a piece of wood dowel.

Oops. Sorry , I didn't realize that was McBride's thing . I've never seen it performed . I got my idea for the candle from a web site on prop making for theater. It had a section on making candles and torches for stage work. Don't know where I put the link , but it was a good resource . I should have it bookmarked , but just now I checked and I don't have it .

Thanks again folks for all the good input.
I have one of the tube/lighter candles and it works pretty well for what I need, I was wondering what the higher tech options might be. Denny is my favorite dealer but all have confirmed that Jeff's candle is out of availability as of now. Ill keep looking and you keep the ideas coming! I appreciate all my Café friends!!

High tech. I have some old electronic candles. James Rainho use to make them. He still make the Omega and Flash Candles the last time I checked. He now uses one method for the of construction for all the candles.

http://www.rainho.com/STAGE%20TRICKS.html

It uses 2 penlight battries. Abbott's Magic was his exclusive distributor. You can check with them.

The problem with electronic is dependability. Just when you want it to light it doesn't. That is why most professionals depend on the a sure-fire method.

Paul diamond made on at one time, also. As far as I know he's not in business anymore. Originally electronic candles were so delecate that the element only lasted a few ignitions. Rainho has found a method that last the indiffently.

Check out Dave Powell's web site and do a search for "Warlock Candle" This is awesome, and I use it in my act. It works very similar to the lighter used for BBQ grillls. Push a button and it lights. It's very well made and uses butane (which you can refill). I think the website may be http://www.powellmagic.com. Check it out!
