I'm hoping you guys can clear this up for me.
A friend told me that hypnosis is banned in certain states of the US is this true? and how can you ban something that occurs naturally? by this I mean trance occurs naturally well I daydream a lot so it does to me anyway.
Us europeans like to leaglise things rather then ban them, probably why I daydream!

regards

Don't be surprised. A quick bit of research finds this law which is technically still in force:

In Oklahoma: Harthahorne City Ordinance, Section 363, states that it shall be unlawful to put any hypnotized person in a display window.

Also

In Hartford, Connecticut: it is illegal to cross a street while walking on your hands.

In Ottumwa, Iowa: it is unlawful for a man to wink at any woman that he does not know.

In Los Angeles: you cannot bathe two babies in the same tub at the same time.

In Zion, Illinois: it is illegal to give lighted cigars to dogs, cats, and other animals kept as pets.

In Carmel, New York: a man cannot go outside while wearing a jacket and trousers that do not match.

In St. Louis: it's illegal to sit on the kerb of any city street and drink beer from a bucket.

In Baltimore, Maryland: it's illegal to throw bales of hay from a second-storey window within the city-limits. It's also illegal to take a lion to the cinema.

In Carrizozo, New Mexico: it's forbidden for a female to appear unshaven in public (includes legs and face.)

In Michigan: a woman isn't allowed to cut her own hair without her husband's permission.

I have a feeling that Carmel, New York is full of fashion police.

It is illegal to eat garlic in public in Gary Indiana. Interesting considering the natural aroma in that locale.

Sounds like Harthahorne City, Oklahoma had too many hynotists doing window sleeps in their town and got tired of all the congestion downtown around the department store. Probably the mayors wife couldn't go shopping and told her husband to take care of it.

I believe Kansas bans Stage Hypnosis shows too. Still leaves 49 other states to perform in though.

Many Laws in this country are born of fear of the unknown. I am not aware of any inforced laws of this kind.

The law in Kansas was finally repealed not too long ago (after being on the books - and enforced - for a century). However, the number still isn't 49. It slips my mind which state (I live in Taiwan) but at least one state bans hypnosis for three or more persons and others do regulate stage hypnosis while some don't regulate entertainment hypnosis but regulate other sorts of hypnosis. It is important that you know your local laws in regard to what you are doing. Consult an actual lawyer rather than a bunch of rubes on the internet and you will be more likely to be "okay" in whatever you are doing.

All the best,
Brian

It must not have been enforced to greatly as there were hypnotists doing shows in Kansas for graduation, fundraisers and public shows while it was supposedly banned.

I believe this is Nebraska - and it is still enforced.
